A Beautiful Weddlug.
Wednesday evening, December 18th,
at f3:80 o'clock, a large crowd gathered
at the home of Mr. M. E. MabatTey to
witness the solemn and beautiful
ceremony of the marriage of his young
ost daughter, Mies Daisy Tempcronco
Mahaffey, to Mr. It. Walter NaBb. the
popular editor of the Belton limes.
The parlor was beautifully decorated
with pinks and other llowers, whloh
were gracefully festooned from celling
to floor, where palms and evergreen*
were placed to complete tbo loveliness
of tho soene. An arch, mado of ever
f'reens mingled with (lowers, und bear
ug tho Initials of tho bride [and groom,
was suspended from tho centor of the
room. Vases and wroaths of hand
some llowors added their charms.
Truly, the sight was one long to bo
remembered.
Immediately following tho llrsb
strains of the wedding march, pluyed
by Miss Mary Nash, si-tcr of (he
groom, the maids of honor, Misses
Hosa Babb and Lillie Nash, attired iu
exquisite costumes of Nile-green Vene
tian cloth, announced the coming of
tbo bridal pair. Carrying dainty
bouquets of white llowers, they grace
fully entered the room, separating
just before they roachod the center.
Then followed the brldo and groom,
who, standing beneath the arch with
tho initial letters, pledged their lives
to be one in tho prosenco of many
friends.
The bride wa9 magnificently gowned
in wbito organdie, trimmed in while
ribbon, with a bouquet of wluto (lowers
In her hair.
The numerous presenlB received
will remind Mr. and Mrs. Nash of the
kind regard of their many friends
I hero and elsewhere.
Tho ceremony was performed by
Uov W. W- Ruff, pastor of tho Pres
byterian Churoh of Falrview.
Shortly after the ceremony, tho
guests were invited into a spacious
dining-room, where a sumptuous sup.
per was served to the largo crowd of
friends present.
The following day tho writer
had the ploasure of accompanying the
guosts to the homo of the groom's
father Mr. Jos. B. Nash, where a
reception was tendered the young
couple. It was a very pleasant occa
sion, and one long to be remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. Nash will leave in a
few days for Belton, where they ex
pect to make their home in the future.
We extend to them our congratula
tions, and may theirs be a long and
happy life.

IN MEHORIAM.
Mrs. Mary McGowan Young, wife
of Mr. Ducket Young, died at her
home at Cross Hill, S. C, on Dec. 8th,
1901, in the twenty-third year of hor
age. This beautiful Christian died us
sbo had lived, gentle, loving and be
loved, yet so firm and stoadfast in tho
faith in her Lord, that she never fal
tered in her dally walk in the straight
and narrow path. It seems to me that
Mary was always a Cnristian and it
seemed perfectly natural for her to
scatter sunshine as she went. Pleas
ant words and sweot smiles wore always
on her lips, and she proved to the
world that a consistent ohild of God
had a right to be happy. Although so
young she had made a noble record as
a woman of high Christian charactor,
talented, well oduca'.ed, refined, and
beautiful In person and mind. It
seems to us short-sighted mortals a
strango disponeatlon of providence
that sho should be taken from her
devoted young husband and swoet
littlo home, where there were unus
ually bright prospects for earthly
happiness.
On her twenty-first birthday she was
happily married to a noble young man,
Mr. Ducket Young, of Ninety Six.
But littlo more than a year of bliss was
granted them, when the "Reaper
who.e nemo is Death" camo and took
for his own tho dear babe ere it saw
the light. Sweet Mary never recov
ered. In vain the tender husband,
mother, sister and friends lavished
upon her every attention, but she
faded, and again the relentless reaper
came and took the moro precious
(lower to bloom In the Master's gar
den.
Dear friends, has he not a right to
our fairest and best? Weep not poor,
broken-hearted husband; dear crushed
old mothor, who has borno so many
sorrows without murmuring; dear
sister and brother dim not your eyes
with tears of selfish sorrow, but look
Heavenward for the beckoning band
that Mary extends, calling you up
higher.
"Beautiful toiler, thy work all done;
Beautful soul into glory gone;
Beautiful life with its crown now
worn;
God glveth the rest!
"Rest from all sorrow and watching
and fears;
Rest from all possible sighing and
tears;
Rest through God's endless wonder
ful years;
A home with the blest!"

Tbo competition between the various
counties for first place 10 the race for
the prize oup in tue Woman's Building
is growing more interesting every day.
All of tho countios represented are
putting their boat foot foromost and
adding new and artistio ex*hiblts to
their othar collections- The contest
promises to be very olose and exciting
und it would take a past master in the
art of prognostication'to venture any
prediction as to who the winner will be.
One of tho most attractive exhibit-,
howovor, is that of Lauren9 County,
which is full of beautiful things. Tho
booth le artistically draped in Indian
red, which makes a lino background
for tho handsome art work louned by
this progressive county. First may bo
mentioned a splendid portrait in oil by
Miss Pamela Cuningham, the regent
of Mt. Vernon, a daughter of whom
Lunrons is very proud. Her early
home, Ro-emont, is a grand old colo
nial residence, in the midst of tino old
grounds, on the banks of Saluda Rlvor.
In this home are many valuable rolics
in linest old mahogany furniture, cut
glas?, old china, etc. This place id one
of intoro?t to visitors from far and
noar.

by Miss Mary Patlllo Simpson,a bright
young artist of Laurens, is muoh ad
mired ! also a placque, in exquisite
hand-painted china, "Cupid and Ills
Mother," and a chocolate urn, by this

The Advertiser lias decided to
have ano'hor voting contest, this time
for the most popular school girl and
boy in the county. 10vevybody?*emem
bers the contest in tho Spring for the
"most popular young lady", and this
contest will be conducted in the same
way.
The prizes offered are two round trip
tickets to the Charleston Exposition,
ono for the most popular school girl tho
other for the most popular school boy
In Laurens county. Tho contest
will last November, December and
January, and it will close at 4 o'clock
I on Tuesday afternoon before the first
Issue of tho paper in Ft uruary.

plan Is given below. Send in your
votes at once.
At the top of column appears print
ed ballots with a blank space in which
the namo of the girl and boy you wish
to vote for may bo written in ink or
pencil. Clip theso ballots ar.d hand
them or send them to The Adver
tiser ofllce by mall. Any person may
voto as many of these ballots as ho
chooses and persons living out of the
county may vote, but the girl and boy
voted for must be residents of the coun
ty. Tho ballots can be saved and voted
altogether or each week as it suits tho
voter.
Eaoh week the names of tho girls
and boys voted for and the number of
votes will bo published. It will be a
good idea to begin your voting noxt
week.
