At a meeting of Alliancemen it was
resolved to call a mass-meeting of the
Alllanoe and Invite the lions. VV. J.
Talbert und I). F. Eilrd to address
them at Laurens C. II., October 12th
inst. Hon. Tal her t has been heard
from, accepted and will be on hand,
and we are expecting tho acceptance of
Hon. Elird. Brother Alliancemen, we
feel the need of a ro/ival of tho Al
liance. It is not dead. The princi
ples are deeply implanted in all of you
and will for all time remain in von as
long as you livo. Never was then
more necessity for the Allianco to
come to the front and battle for "equal
rights to all men and special privileges
to none." Tho greatest danger to our
country is the unlawful and speedy ac
cumulation of wealth to the poverty
and financial ruin of too masses.
Trusts, combines and corners are en
circling our country and enveloping
our country as never before, taking
from the people unlawful profits and
tariffs, some of them even under law.
High royalties are being paid to the
impoverishing of our people to combin
ed capital. By this procedure farmers
are being driven from (heir homes
into other avocations to seek a living.
What an anomaly. While tho great
trusts arc enlarging their plants in
many industries, declaring larpo divi
dends, and by th<:se means making few
purchasers for farm product, amassing
wealth while the producers are be
coming poorer. The legitimate laws
of supply and demand must prevail and
then we will have nothing to say. Our
calling Is a noblo one- tho betterment
of mankind financially, morally aud
educationally. Wo boliove that tho
groat educational wave that the last
few years has swept over our land goj,
great encouragement and impetus
from the Alliance. Wc would like to
write more, but space in next issue of
the paper is limited, aud will end by
calling on all Alliancemen und sympa

We publish to day an interesting
letter in regard to the Woman's De
partment of the Exposition and wo
hope it will receive attention. So far
as the work for the Exposition In this
county is concerned, we loam that It
la progressing rapidly and dotting on a
tangible footing. Two show cases
have been secured and two china clos
ets are being constructed and many
picture?, rate old china and cut glass
old enough to bo linked with legends,
have been contributed, and all the In
dies, with nimble lingers, are doing
wonderful embroidery. Tho Laurens
ladies wish to look after the drapery of
the window in their department, which
will consist of a beautiful lambrequin
widely bordered with battenburQf
