The music at tho First Baptist
church yesterday was very fine and
greatly enjoyed by tho largo congre
gation The voluntary chant- "An
dels of Liirht," with solo? by Mrs. T.
F. Jones and Mr R. A. Ballowo was
finely rendered. Tho offertory solo by
Mrs. E. T. Long and violin obligate by
Miss Lorkwood, of Union Female Col
lege, was a gem of melody that de
lighted the hearers. Mrs. Jonos has a
clear sweet soprano voice and whon
she sings in the different ehoirs in the

Miss Sallic Jones will bo married
to Mr. Wooten, a prominent bus
iness man of Wwberry, at the resi
dence of her father, Mr. w. w. Jones,
at noon to-dav. The wedding will bo a
quiet affair and Immediately after the
ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Wooten will
leave for a wedding trip. The bride-to
be, though she has spent much of her
life with relatives in Eductteld county,
Is well known here and has the good
wishes of numbers of friends .
The Beautiful Snow.
Saturday morning last found the
''sweet sunny South" in the grip of old
winter and the beautiful snow in a very
little while had wrapt her in a mantle
of exquisite white. There was no hold
up of the Northern blast until 1 o'clock
in the aftorroon, when the clouds were
dissipated, followed by a cold wave that
was anything but enjoyable, it was all
very beaut ful ami all very well except
for the very poor, but wo have every
reason to believe that there has been
little extreme sulYe'dng among 'born.
Death of n Vrf mishur Voting Man.
Tho death of Mr. ^rthnr Galnos at
his home near Prtnoftton. on the 10th
lust ,is greatly regretted by a largo con
nection ami numbers of friends through
out the county. He was only about
thirty-two years old, at tho very be
ginning of a useful and promising ca
reer. Ho was a son of Mr. II. J. Gainos,
who tosrothor with his young wifo and
other relatives have very general and
hearty sympathy.
Must Face tho Music.
Col. Meal, ex-Penltentiarv ohlef, was
Indicted in Rieb land for failing to turn
over funds belonging to the State when
he was retired from offloe. Judire
Benot sustained a demurrer to the in
dictment. Attorney General Bellinger
appoaled, the Supremo Court sustait p
tho appeal and Col. Noal must now
stand trial and face a Jury.

will meet a' four o'clock on the after
noon of Monday. March 11th in Mrs.

The Summer Schools.
Tho date for the State Summer
School for teaohers is Juno 20th to July
17th. It is important that county
Schools should not conflict with these
dates. Superintendent Brooks, who is
looking industriously after the school
interests in our county desires us to
say that the county school for teachers
will be hold between tho dates July
22nd and 10th of August.

their baby girl, Virginia. She was a
bright and attractive child, about a
year old, but succumbed to an attack
of dyphtherla.
