quite a large crowd was present. As
we stood around the stand and list. : d

honored veteians and heard about one

it made a solemn and sad feeling come

farewell to homes and kindred sacredly

grateful if we should let a re-union
pass unattended. Only a few years
and all of them will have passed to
tho greater re-union beyond, but their
memories will still be cherished and

mill tax. would tho mills cheapen our
expenses? No. Mills are Important,
but tin' amount of money they raise tire
more Important'. Long, us wo arc tho
third highest taxed county in South
Carolina. I stand to I ho charge we il?'o
spending too much money, and all the
figuring our ollicltlls can <lo will not
change my boliolf.
There is something misleading in the
estimates of 3J mills laid on our county
to pay interest on rail road bonds. This
will raise doublo tho amount necessary
to pay the interest. I guess our county
is using the balance ol this money in
ordinary county expenses. As ibis
inoney is assessed for LtiiilrOild debt--, it
by all moans should go into a sinking
rund to retire our bonds.

milker, etc.. to leave their employer.
How about dependencies or obligation
in the case you have a cook and your
wife is an invalid or you have sickness
in the fami'y. Doesn't it appear at
once that there is as much, if not more,
dopcndlng on t his class ol laborers.than
on Held hands? I will say in behalf of
our noble solf-sacrilicing over-work-d
women, that if tie- lords of creation
have not the proper regard for them in
procuring not n despotic law, but one of
just ice and mercy to enforce the con
tracts with their hired help. Stud)
men ought to bo prohibited from hav
ing wives to attend their domestic
wants. Another evil we have to
complain ol. Is the pernicious habit of
advancing inonc,> on contracts. To ob
viate this evil, wo ?night to enact a
