Tho man with whom the negro violated hi contract and run away from, presses tho Sheriff to apprehend and bring h m to trial. Most of these Constables get only fifty dollars euch annually, thor< - fore they cannot, afford to occupy all d their time riding after tho many v - lators of contracts, because tho saim does not justify same. This incrous ? the Sheriff's work greater und costs the county more than any one other matter portabalng to tho olilcc, i>' - cause this kind of cases are so numer ous. Then again the Sheriff of Bau? rens county serves all of the dispen sary warrants, while in nearly all til other counties Sheriffs prefer not to bother with them and will not serve them only when they cannot got out ol it. Besides there are many other kinds of processes of law directed to me, viz: Bench warrants, witness war rants, subpoena writs, etc. During the your 1800, this olilcc served hit) warrants, etc. arrest* d 508 persons and committed tt> Jail 20f> person . It gives a cor rect idea about what the Sheriff's ollicc pays after all the necessary ex penses nre deducted.
