It Is a distinction without a difference and it is best once for all to have it declared that one wife is enough for a Congressman. Roberta Is an English man born, naturalized in this country, and while moving he should have gone East to Turkey or Morocco. We are opposed to all trusts and monopolies and especially this one which Roberts Is undertaking to organize. The latest news is that Roberts will not be seated. It Is announced that Col. J. W. Barnwcll, State Senator for Charles ton, will run for Congress from that District next year. Blllott, of Beau fort, has represo'ted the District for four or five terms acceptably. Charles ton has a majority of the Democratic voters of tho entire District and can elect, If these votes be centered on one man. The certificate of election in Ken tucky goes to Taylor, Republican, for Governor. * * An old Song and Dance. There would seem to he no end to tho Dispensary killings or blood-let ting In the enforcement of our whis key "reform." It will save much time to taxpayers, also greatly facilitate (he work Ol the Assessor, if every person before leav ing home will make out a complete list of every item of personal property in the following order: Horses, cattle, mules, sheep and goats, hogs, watches, organs and pianos, buggies, wagons and carriages, dogs, merchandise, ma chinery and engines, moneys, notes and accounts above indebtedness, and a 1 other property including house hold. It is always required that the Audi tor get the lirst given name of the tax payer in full. Under the head of place of residence on tax return, give the township. All male Citizens between the ages of twenty-one and sixty years, on the 1st of January, except those who are incapable of earning a support from being maimed, or from other causes, arc deemed taxable polls (Confederate veterans excepted.) And all taxpayers are required to give the number of their school dis trict. After the 20th day of February next, fifty per cent, penalty will he attached for failures to make returns. In every community there am per sons who cannot read or that do not take a newspaper. Those more fortu nate may do such persons a great fa vor hy telling them of the time to make returns or by returning for them. The assessing and collecting taxes is done in the same year, and we have to aggregate the number and value of all horses, mules, cattle and other pieces of personal property, as well as the acres of land, lots and buildings and their value that there are in this county, and have tho same on file in ? the Comptroller General's office by the BOtll of June of each year, and from t hat time to the first day of October the Auditor's and Treasurer's dupli cate have to be completed and an ab stract of tin work in the Comptroller General's office by that time, which will show at a glance that the Auditor has no time to take returns, or any thing else much, bet ween (he 1st day of October, but work on the hooks and the blanks.
