HOME AFFAIRS. Court Of Sessions. The machinery of the Court was promptly at work at 10 a. m., on yes terday morning. Judge K. G. Wattn, Solicitor T. 8. Sease and Stenographer Campbell were in their places prompt ly. Judge Watts charged the Grand Jury fully as to their general duties, and took occasion to compliment the county upon the well known character of the population for thrift, industry and progress. Mr. A. W. Sims was made foreman. The body I? unusually intelligent and the same may be said of tin- panels of petit juries. John Foster and Henry Fleming entered a plea of guility of assault with intent to kill. It was a case of shooting a colored per son, the accused nlso colored. Tlie following true bills were re turned on yesterday before the dinner recess: * Agninst John Miller, colored, for the murder of Spencer Simpson, a white man, near Clinton last autumn. (This oasc is assigned for trial to-day); against Hnttie Flecther, colored, mur der of a colored girl; against Win Wright and Nod Koseman, colored, for murder of a colored girl; against Wm Johnson, arson ; Charlie Allen , arson : Jack Lewis, larceny; against Tom Beasley for murder. Beasley has not been arrested. About noon Solicitor Sease was necessitated to turn over his duties to L. W. Simkins, Esq. on ac count of indisposition. We hope it is only temporary. This is Mr Sease's first term hero, but he comes with com plimentary notices of his conduct of his office at Spartanburg and Union. The criminal cases will probably oc cupy until Thursday night of the Court, but it is impossible at this writ ing to say that the entire week will not be consumed in clearing the jail. Jno. Foster and Henry Fleming were each sentenced to pay $25.00 or three months on the chain gang. They paid. The trial of Hattie Fletcher for murder is fixed for to-morrow morning and Will Wright and Ned Hosemond, mur der, for Thursday morning. Jack Lewis charged with house breaking and larcency was acquitted. True bills were returned in the case of Ira T. Willinms, larceny, and Louis Williams and Babe Brown, murder. Ellis Childs and Louis AVatts, two colored boys are now being tried for murder. For estimates on building material be sure and call on J. C. Elliott. Big Closing Out Sale. The damage to the house is considerable, probably more than 11,000, but Mr. Babb is suf ficiently Insured against the damage. Messrs. Crews & Jones are Insured; Mr. Harris, wo understand, is not in sured. Tho city fire department were very prompt and did noble service, pre venting by 'their good work a serious conflagration. Mr. W. W. Ball, who for two years has edited tho Charleston Evening Post, it is announced, has resigned that position, and will tako chargo of tho editorial columns of the Greenville News. They are merely licentiates, not "officers. They are in tho category of ministers and physicians. Thoy tako an oath, but not an "oath of office." A minister of the gospol might be made to'tako an oath to maintain the Stato and United States Constitutions; but no official du ties would follow by that fact. Wilkes, a popular young lady of our o!ty, aftor spending some time with friends in Western New York, is welcome home again. Han na, from all accounts, can manage to squeeze alone: without the aid of Bush null. But It Is not our funeral. Mc Kinley can send him to Guinea. Mission Work About Caniperdown. Mr. T. H. Stall, who for some mouths has been carrying on Sun day afternoon services on the east ern side of Coutt street, will here after hold these services at the Holmes mission school on Lois street, near Camperdown factory. The exercises begin at 4.80 p. m. on every Sunday, immediately aftor the close of the Sunday school held at the same place under the super intendence of Judgo John C. Bailey. Miss Constance McCorklo, who teaches at Chicora College, has for some Mino past been conducting an afternoon school for small children at this mission with encouraging results. She Is compolled, how ever, by the pressure of her regu lar duties to give up this work and her place will be supplied by Miss Mary Holmes, a sister of Rov. N. J. Holmes.?Groenvillo Moun taineer. Another Old Soldier at Rest. Major Niles Neabitt, who is well known in this city and county, died At his homo at Taylors Monday morning of consumption. He was of Spartanburg county and G9 years of ago. During tho civil war he was major of the First South Caro lina Cavalry regiment,commanded by Colonel Black, and served with great bravery. After tho war, he resided In this city, clerking for T. W. Davis, also for a short time acting as deputy for Sheriff Gilroath. Ho was a member of tho Baptist church at Iiis home, but was buried yesterday afternoon at Woodruffs?Greenville News.
