Evory body was there?that is to say ali the feminine world, and they were re warded for exerting themselves on one of the warmest of the past ten or twelve record-breaking days. It was rather hard on last Wednesday to realize that one would ever need cold weather ap parel but on entering the Jamleson store one Immediately found new rea sons for desiring a descent of the mer cury. Tho store was beautifully draped, the goods displayed to every ad vantage and it was easy to find dresses to one's taste and every condition of the pocket book. Editoh Advertisbr:?In the report of tho proceedings of the Constitutional Convention on last Thursday (Friday's paper) during tin diBCUssion upon the article on Municipal Corporations and Police Regulations, I noticed the follow ing: "License (or privilege taxes) im posed shall be graduated so as to secure a just imposition of such tax upon the chn?os subject thereto. Mr. Sheppard moved to strike out the last sentenco of the section. Tabled on motion of Mr. Clayton, who said the pentence was in ttuded to prevent discrimination such as prevails in Laurcns, where a man Worth $150,000 pays the samo license as his neighbor who has not a dollar."? That our town labors under such on un enviable system, is news to me.? Perhaps there is somo mistake, but the statement has gone out. Mr. Bon Wells, of Cross Hill, was among tho young men from this coun ty who matriculated at tho South Caro lina Collego. Mrs. A. G. Wardlaw and children of Charleston, are visiting frlonds in tho city. They will always- be heartily welcomed in Laurens. Mrs. Florence Morck, of Acme, Fla., is visiting relatives and friends in our midst, who aro delighted to welcome her to her old homo onco moro. Mr. Tom Ray has roturned from Vir ginia, whore for scvoral months ho was engaged in tho insuranco busi ness. Over at the Factory tho cottages for tho operators aro being built, the floor of tho Mill is being laid and tho roof is on. The days for tho pir/cing of tho machinery aro not far off. An important mooting of the stock holders of tho cotton mill is called to meet at N. B. Dial's ofilco at 10 A. M. to-day to consider tho proposlton to in crease tho stock and onlargo tho mill. Tho colleges in tho Stato, male and female, report aninciease in attend ance at the autumn opening. This shows well for the Stato, now and in the futuro. Tho Saturday's crowd was larger than usual. Everything was lively and and happy. Complaint Is mado of the short crop and tho drought, but tho pricos aro cheering and so is tho pros pect. 120 bales were sold on Saturday. On the western side of tho square tho building of tho new hotol keeps everything moving along briskly. The roof is on and the front is going up.? It won't be a very distant poriod when It will bo open to guosts. On the 0th of October Bob and Alf Taylor will lecturo at Greonvillo. Thoy are leading humorists and tho most ac complished platform lecturers in tho South. An effort will be made for a strong Laurens party to go up and en joy tho treat. Messrs. Fleming Jones, W. E. Lucas, H. K. Aiken, Arthur Simkins, John Pool, J. T. Crows and Mrs. J. F. Bolt were a few of tho large crowd from Laurens in attendance upon tho fair at Gray Court. Bryan, ox-District Judge, of South Carolina, an octogenarian, died at Flat Rock, N. C, on Saturday last and his remains carried to Char leston for interment. Spartanburg, 8.0., Sept, 25.?John Wolle Simpson, ihe assistant oishior of tho National Bank of Spartanburg, and Mi-s Mabel Floinming, one of the most popular and boautiful young wo men of tbo city, were married to-night in the First Presbyterian Church. The ceremony was performed by tho Rov. N. J. Holmes, of Greenville, assisted by tho Ro.v. Dr. Watkins, tho pastor, the former being the groom's brother in-law. Tho wedding was one of tho prettiest ever seen hero, tho arrangements be ing novol and tho decorations and cos tumes particularly striking. Tho church was crowded to tho doors whon tho wedding march-was begun. The groomsmen entered the main door and marched down tho middle aisle three abreast, taking positions on each siuo of the pulpit. Tho brides maids then followed and stood in front of them. Then cumo tho two maids of honor. Misses Mario Convorso and Annie Hill, of Greonvillo, followed by tho "best girl," Miss Gladys Floming. Tho bride came In on tho arm of her brother, 0. Edwin Fleming, who gave her away. Tho groom was accom panied by Ernest Simpson, his best man. A gentleman was in tho city yestor day who said ho camo up on the train from Columbia on Friday last with Senator Irby. Doparted this life Juno 18th, 1805, at Cross Hill, S. C, Mrs. Nannie E. Cook, aged fifty years, nine months and four days. 'I no deceased was a member of tho Baptist church ovor thirty yoars. Her husband, Mr. John C. Cook and eight children survive her. She lived her religion by ministering to others. There seemed a forgetfulness of her self when others were in need.
