It was a gala day, the groat Stock Show at Gray Court on Friday last. T. Shell. Tho exhibit was a gratifying success. Billy barlow. The Teachers Association. In response to a call to the teachers of Laurens county a goodly number mot at Laurens C. H. Oct. 0, for the purpose of perfecting a teachers association. They proceeded to business with Prof. J. B. Watkins acting as temporary chair man and Prof. 13. Y. Culbertson as tem porary secretary. The following oflicors were perma nently elected: President J. B. Watkins. let, Vlco President W. T. McElrov. 2d. Vice President 0. C. Whiteaide. Secretary and Treaaurer Kosa M. Teaguo. The benefit resulting from a Teacher's Association was then ably discussed by W. T. McElroy and J. R. Watkins. Prof. J. B. Watkins gave ua Iiis viows in regard to the Normal course for the teachers of Laurens. The following r(B)lutiona were unani mously adopted: let. Resolved, "That tho chairman appoint a committee of three teachers to confer with the book sellers of Laurens and ascertain if they would sell the text book h at the prices agroed upon between the State Board of Examinora and tho different publishing companies." Committee as follows : Profs. Jas. A. Madden, W. T. McElroy, and J. R. Watkins. I was informed that they called on Messrs. J. O. C. Fleming Si Co., and Todd & Simpson book-sellers and that they refused to sell tho books at tho prices agreed upon by the publishing companies. The committee then requested the School commissioner to coramunicato immediately with Hon. W. D. Mayfleld Supt. of Education, aeking him to ap point, by and with the consent of State Board of Examiners, a Depository at Laurens so that tho text books may be procured at the agreed prices. Our school commissioner readily granted this request and wroto the Supt. of education. We advise our people to await tho re sult of this tnovo bofore purchasing text books, ?h the pricss are higher at Lau rens than in somo of our adjoining coun ties. 2d. Resolvod, "That a committee of five bo appointed to memorialize the Legislature to pass an-act authorizing tho Treaaurer of Laurens county to bor row money sufficient to pay all teanheis cash for their school claims when due." This arrangement has been made in Anderson and Greenville by special act of the Legislature, and Laurens can do what Greenville and Anderson has done. Committeo appointed Profs. J. B. Watkins, Jas. A. Madden, W. T. McEl roy, C. O, Whitesides, and J. D. Cul bertson. We insist that the teachers of Lau rens awake to their interests and show the same by being present at our next meeting which will bo held at Laurens C. H. Saturday Oct. 27, 1894 at 10.30 o'clock.
