The News und Courier hints that Editor A. B. Williams will want to go to Congress, but Mr. Williams denies that he is threatened by fviy such impending doom. Mr. Williams may not havo "political strength" but there are hundreds of readers who getstrongth as well AS backbone from his editorials. Frankly and fairly the Herald answers our query as to how it stands on tho Sub-treasury. It will back Terrell as the exponent of tho Sub-treasury scheme and Tillman as tho exponent of State politics. It may bo that Tillman will per sist In antagonizing the Sub-treas ury, and yet presume to leave tho sphere of Stato politics long enough to run for tho U, S. Senate against a doughty champion of Alliance demands liko Col. Keitt; In which event, tho grim duty of lighting Tillman would confront tho Herald. We beliovo, however, that the Her ald will never bo placed in any such awkward situation. School Commissio practical persons son to regret that t**y are so care fully intent upon selecting for the location of the institution a town where it can best bo built to great est usefulness, and bo of most ad vantage to the State. . Laurens is her own recommend ation and there is reason lobe glad that tho eyos of the commissioners have seen It. Very little has been .'.aid and perhaps very little is known, by tho press, about Dr. Babcock, Oov. Tillman's appointee to the suporin tendency of tho Asylum. From this, it may ho taken for granted that Dr. Babcock is not a more pol itician and it is fuir to presume that Gov. Tillman has given him the position only after being con vinced of his fitness for it. Cir cumstances indicate that the Gov ernor has acted with good sense, care, and discretion. From tho signs of tho times the political fight next year will bo quite a lively con tost, with prob ably tho sarao opposing candidates in the field for the Governorship. And now, as queries are in order, wo presume tho AdvbrtiSBB will not object to telling "all tho world and tho balance of mankind" which side it will "back," incase the snme fight should bo made??Herald. No indeed! If the political drama of 1890, in its entirety, should be re-enacted next year, the Advek ti8eh would fill tho samo role, and work for Tillman, striving to ac quiro a highly cultivated taste for crow. But tho conditions will be more or loss changed. Wo shall see what we shall see and say what wo shall say when tho future be comes less dimly outlined so that wo ; can discuss it intelligently. A good democrat is all wo want and at prosont, "coming events" cast no "shadows" before tho Ad vertiser. Edgciicld's Alliance Does Not Favor the Sub-treasury. Edueeield, S. C, July 10.?This morning at an early hour Alliance men from tho four corners of the county came by droves to attend tho meeting of tho County Alliance and to hear the dobato on the sub treasury bill between Governor Tillman and Hon. W. J. Talbert, Tho court house was filled to its uttermost, but tho doors were closed, and your correspond ed not being a member of the Al liance was not permitted to be present, consequently knows noth ing of tho discussion except what could bo heard from the echo of the speakers* voices now and then. The impression is that Governor Tillman got tho best of tho debate. After the discussion a resolution was offered to endorse the sub treasury bill, which was tabled, and a resolution was offered to adopt theOcala platform, which was snowed under seven feet deep. This clearly indicates that tho sub-treasury is not wanted in Edgefield.?A ugusla Chronicle. The News and Courier's corres pondent says that it was a drawn fight between Tillman and Tal bert.
