Capt. G. W. Shell called the ifteoting to order al lO^? o'clock, and in opening the mooting made a few remarks ami road an address. Ho congratulated tho peo ple upon their successful organization, This convention, said he, has but one objoot, ono pvirpose: to accomplish sonn good for tho poor pooplc. ' COMMENT. WK OBSERVE: -That thin Convention was composed of intelligent men, who aro not to be lead astray by extremists. That so far, tho Democratic Party is safe. That tho sentiment embodied In tho resolution in regard to additional taxa tion, is the sentiment of men who look beforO they leap That opposition to tlie Democratic Primary received a "black eye." That a few moro conventions of this stripe will show what tho people really want. That passing a batch of res duttons without discussion means nothing. That Capt. Humbert would be a retn/i in tho Sonate. That no one suggested "suggesting" to tills Convention. That wo aro opposed to secret cau cuses. That Radicalism ls not con Unod to tho Republican Party, but can bo found in all. That tho action of this Convention was conservative, and we trust Itsoffoot will bc lasting. McGowan, who ha* been an invalid for more than a year past, has been worse than usual for some days. Miss Estelle E. Griffin, of Water loo, luis been visiting friends at Cross Hill. Mrs. Martha Coleman, wife of W 13. Coleman, is quite sick. Under the influence of good weather and work, the crops are looking better and the people are in bettor spirits. Thc death Of Mrs. Willie Jones, of Laurens will grieve many of her relatives and frie 'ils in this com munity. She spent a good many years at Cross Hill, and her worth and goodness are well known to all. In our communication of last week tho type made us say that **a few musical men" participated in tho game of basti ball of which we were speaking. We intended to write it "a few married men." Dunlap's OM Field. Agreeable to call of County Chair man, Capt. (?. W. Sholl, a number ot the farmers of Hunter's town ship met at this place to-day, for tho purpose of organizing a Central Culb was organized by electing Maj. ll. S. Griffin, Chinmina, and S. W. Vance Secretary. The Club then proceeded to elect two executive committee men. It. J. Copeland and J. S. Willock j were chosen. Tlie following gentlemen as dele gates to County Convention: Messrs J. W. C. Boll, J. L. Craw ford, L. W. C Blaloek, W. H. Work man. It. < J. Wallace, J. E. Boyd, Dr. James Williams W. F Bailey and C. J. Workman. The following resolutions were in troduced by Mr. J. C. Davis, nnd submitted without remarks: WURRAH our State Convention, assembled in Columbia on the 20th of April last, adopted a platform and principles, endorsing tho Pri mary pian of nominating candi dates Resolved. That wo adhere to the Primary plan of nominating candi dates, as recomended by the state Convention of Earners. Resolved, 2d. That the people are the liest judges of how and for whom to east their ballot. Upon motion ot Mr. W. H. Work man, tlie resolutions of Mr. Davis were tabled. Upon motion of Mr, J. L.
