Nome Want no Special Term.

25th. Eleven members of the
bar petitioned the governor 10
appoint "one learned in the law"
to hold the special term, but in
the meantime a counter petition
was received, signed by four
0 prominent, lawyers, stating that
they were opposed to the term
because of the fact that in addi*
tion to the regular term of 15103
f there had already been two special

The counter petition, in addition,
stated that four other lawyers
had refused to ask for the special
term and that the county supervisor
and one of the county com
missioners opposed it on account
of the expense attache the
county being unable financially
to have the term
Majorities rule, however, under
sections2744 of t he statutes,which
provides that when a majority
request the court the governor
must, do so. It is not a matter
of his discretion. Gov. Iley ward

ror at the Iroquois theatre. As

a result of an investigation made
at his orders and lasting but a
few hours, 10 theatres and muse- '
urns were ordered closed, some of '
them being among the leading '
and most popular playhouses in !
the city. The act of the mayor i
wan based on a single violation
of the audinancfs which is intended
to protect the patrons of the
atres from just such an occurence
as that which cost so many lives
on Wednesday. This was that
every one of these places had
omitted to supply an asbestos
curtain.
