Oaskey ^ whose death resulted that night H at 11 o'clock. v It seems that Mr. Caskey and ^ one ot his friends went to a dance at the mill village the night be t tore. Both of them were under c the influence of whiskey and b were misbehaving, one of them grossly insulting one of the young 8 ladies, which was resented by her t Iriends, and Mr Skipper, to prevent further difficulty,insisted on ^ their leaving the hall. On their|t refusal to go they were ejected iron) the hall. It seems that Mr. Caskey was 8 disposed to hold Mr. Skipper responsible lor his treatment at the 1 hands of others and came to Mr. f Skipper's house the following 1 morning before Mr. Skipper was up and insisted on going to his bed room, which Mrs. Skipper refused ( to allow. 1 Later Mr. Skipper was going from his house to the company f store, to distribute Christmas c tokens to the children and oper atives of the mill. He was ac i costed by Mr. Caskey and was ( asked for an explanation as to ^ his ejection lrom the hall. Mr. Skipper stated to him that ( ne was ejected on account of mis j behavior and had no one to blame but himself, whereupon Oaskey became very abusive and threat- 1 ening in language and manner ' and motioned tor tiis pistol. Mr. Skipper told him not to drgw his ' gun and turning, lett him, where- , upon Caskey said "I will get you yet." i Skipper paid no further atten- t tion to him and went on down to i the store to distribute the Xmas gitts to Ihe children and opera- , lives ot the mills. P. t Caskey. ] Mr. Skipper is a Southern man, having beon born and ] reared in Baltimore. Porter, empaneled a jury ( of inquest and made invostiga- ? tion, and returned a verdict that the deceased camo to his death f from the effects of a gunshot < wound at the hands of C. B. Skipper. 1 Immediately after the shoot- i ng Mr. Skipper gave himself ip to the ollicers of the law and vas lodged in jail. He will .pply for bail, we understand, it an early day.
