OllTII CAROLINA MILL MEN
ARE FEARFUL.

Fields Seems to
Count for Nothing.
Charlotte, N. C., Dec. 5.?The
idieatiops are that Tuesday's
leeting of cotton men lo consider
ie advisability of curtailing proaction
will be largely attended,
ie rise in price of cotton during
ie past few days probably eaus
ig the attendance to be larger
lan it would have been other
ise. In addition to mill men
om all over the south, it is ex
ected that manufacturers and
immission men from the north
ml east will be present. The ,
lovement looking to a curtailing
I the production of the southern
lilIs is being watched with a v
reat, deal of interest by New 1
nglandnianufacturers, and it is
xpected that any agreement for |
irtailing that may be entered \
ito at the meeting will include }
uite a number of northern man- i
fact urers. <
It is expected that the cloth ,
lills will be more largely repre- i
snted than the yarn mills, since (
le latter, as a rule, it is said, are '
i a better condition than the |
irmer. !
It is estimated that about 20 .
er cent of the* southern mills (
ave a sufficient amount of cotton i
ought to run them until next ,
iimmer, and it is not expected ]
liat any of Ihese mills will agree
i curtail their production. And
either are the mills which have ,
ontracts to lill in a position to
nrlail or shut down.

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE
Cubitus Fight u Duel.
Special to The Stale.
Habana, Dec. 2?On Friday
norning last there occurred in
he suburbs of this city a little
tffair of ' honor" between two of
ho best, known men in the city.
Due of the principals was a congressman
who is noted for his
radical views and his constant
opposition to the government,
l'lie other man i? r>ne u/Ih^a
talents in the literary field arc
recognized and who is known as
in earnest supporter of the Cuban
government. The latter was a
major in the Cuban army of liberation
and the congressman
holds the rank of general.
The "affair" is due to an article
which was published in one
of the papers of this city some
time ago in which the congressman
was attacked and it has been
the outcome of two other duels
before this one. The first duel
was caused because one of the
friends of the absent congressman
objected to the article and said it
was cowaidly to so write about a
man when he was away. A challenge
followed and the writer of
the article, a nminr l?ia
antagonist. Then om of tho
seconds ol the principal took up
the quarrel an(l another duel was
fought two or three days afterwards.
A few days ago the congressman,
who has been spending
a greater part of the summer
and fall in the United States, returned
ami at once challenged the
major to answer to him lor the
article attacking him.
The congressman got by lar the
worst ot I lie argument and any
one visiting the lower house of
congress during the next few
days will see one of the number
with some court plaster on his
face which is the result of his
antagonist's sword point. Tho
oinor wound was delivered in the
sword arm and while not dangerous
is very painful.
Fight Will be Bitter.
Those w ho will persist in closing
their, ears against the continual
recommendation of Dr.King's
New Discovery for (Jomsumption,
will have a long and bitter tight
with their troubles, if not ended
earlier by fatal termination.
Read what T. R. Beall of Beall,
Miss., has to say : "Last fall my
wife had every symtom of consumption.
She took Dr. King's
New Discovery after everything
else had failed. Improvement
came at once and four bottles entirely
cured her." Guaranteed
