A number of the leaders on both
the Democratic and Republican

this winter, but if it is not passed
at this session the sentiment in
favor of it will be developed so
strongly that its passage will follow
very soon.
Mr. Latimer is taking a great,
deal of interest iu Congressman
Aiken'a bill providing for a post
office building at Anderson. It
can hardly pass as a separate
measure, he says, but if a general
public building bill can be gotten
up the appropriation tor Auder

will go through along with the
others.
The senator Bays that the Democrats
in congress are very hopeful
of sucess in the presidential
election next year. It is realized
that the Democrats
| have a splendid chance and sp en

the country, and there is a general
sentiment and determination

that is presented. Sentiment

Gorman, he said, as the Democratic
candidate for the presi

S. Bennet, charged wi'h the mur
der of Deputy Sheriff H O. ltichard
and also (lie two brothers ol
Bennett alleged to he implicated
in the murder.
The arrest took place at the
turpentine camp ol 1). li. Edwards,
1*2 in lies south of Starke
The Bennett brothers, after the
killing ol the deputy sheriff on
Thursday afternoon, made their
escape and Sheriff .Johns with the
aid of members of the Bradford
County Guards, begun a t-e>reh
for them. Willi his posse the
sheriff moved towards Edwards'
camp anil learue 1 that the Bennetts
were hiding in one of the
cabins. They advanced cautiously
when the Bennetts opened tire
on the sheriff s party. The olficers
and posse did not return the fire,
acting on instructions from the
sheriff No inducement for an
hour coulcf prevail upon the Ben
net brothers to surrender and
they continued to fire on the
sheriff's crowd until their ammunition
was exhausted.
Sheriff Johns determined to arrest
the Bennetts at all hazards
and the cabin in which ttiev were
hiding was tinaliv set on tire. Tue
Bennetts tied from the cabin to
another, but the posse set cabin
alter cabin on tire until 12 were
reduced to ashes. Seeing escape
impossible and being out ot am
munition, the Bennett brothers
surrendered and were chained and
taken to Lake Butler, where they
were placed in jail.
