church next Thursday morning

indeed been a treasure. There has
been a most refreshing season of
good things. The faith of be
lievers has been strengthened.
During the past week Christians
of all denominations have united
and all have worked together.
?The Confederate Bazaar will
take place on the 8th of Decern*
ber. The Daughters are making
a desperate effort to have it a
miocess. We are not soliciting
contributions individually, but

through the papers to please help
us in this noble work. Each
man, woman and child is requested

county, died Thursday night
last of pneumonia after an illness
of only about one week.
She leaves with her husband
four children to mourn her
death.

ing about two miles from Jefferson
swinging from a limb, J
to which he had been strung up 1

prisoner was being taken to ^
Chesterfield jail, tho authori j
ties were held up at the point
of guns and the prisoner taken i
from them and swung to a limb. 1

a spring. The purpose of the I
brute was not accomplished and
the child was not injured. s
Messrs. Will and Frank Porter |
of Monroe are brothers of the \
little girl upon whom the crime
was attempted and they left i
early last Monday morning to I
aid in the search for Nelson
and returned yesterday after- i
noon, stating that no trace of 4
him could be found. The negro \
worked on Mr Porter's farm

The news of the death of Mr. '
Joseph M Oaskoy will be learned
with deep regret bv his many J
Iriends throughout the county. 1
lie died at his home about 1 I
o'clock yesterday morning after a {
short illness of pneumonia. Mr. Caskey
was about 58 years of age t
and leaves his wife and three t
children surviving him. He was 1
a member of New Hope Baptist 1
church and was esteemed by all \
who knew him as a hirrh-toned \
Christian miui. Honest, upright, *
kind hearted and benevolent,
Lancaster county loses by his ^
death one of her very best citizens.
lie served in the Confed- j
erate army, beiug in the company ,
of boys which went into service
under Capt. J. D. Caskey and
made a good soldier. He was
elected county commissioner for
one term by probably the largest v
vote ever given any man for that
office in the county. For the
past six years he has been keeper ,J
of the county home and has made 1
a good and most efficient one.
His remains were interred yester- 1
day afternoon in Newhope church- \
yard, a large concourse of friends c
being present at the last sad rites, t
Mrs. Delia Dorter, wife of Mr. 5
Keece Porter of the Elgin section, 1
died last Thursday evening after H
a very short illness. Mrs. Porter *
was a daughter of Mr. John Mar *
shall and was only about 21 years
of age. She was a bride of less
than a year and her death is a sad
one. She was a member of St.
Luke Methodist church and a consistent
Christian lady. Her remains
were interred yesterday
afternoon in the grave-yard at St. 1
