Mr. Newman had jupt pot nn1 of the elevator with his children rnd walked straightway across the street to the car, and wns helping them from the steps into the aisle seats when he felt two men shove heavily against him, forcing the children within the . car. Instantly he grabbed out and caught one of the men by the wrist, forcing the pocketbook oat of the parse snatchor's band, the purse falling on the steps of the car. The motormsn and conductor Faw the incident, and before the crooks could pet away had them by the collar, others also taking a hand in preventing their escape. The report, which is baaed on special inquiry made by Bradetreet'a correspondents through the south, will pay : lkTo the main leading question as to ttie probable yield this year aa compared witn last, the unanimity of the opinion pointing to a yield below that of 1002 is notable. Two states, Alabama and Louisiana, report a probable increase in production. Texas shows much diversity of opinion, the uet result being a crop about equal to last year, while the other states report decreases, most not able in South Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee, with smaller reductions in North Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas and Florida 1 hree fourths of the questions point to the belief that no top crop worth mentioning will be gathered, but the answers to the question of grading and staple show it to be better as a whole than last year. Although the general consensus of opinion is that the crop will be smaller than a year ago, it is pointed out that the higher price ruling, the ad vance on last year being 1 to 1 i cents, makes the crop, potentially as valuable in a money way, as a year ago. Making all allowances for under-estimation, the reports as a whole point to a yield in bales no larger, if indeed it ouite equals, that CT last year, which buw a commercial crop of 10,227; 000 bales marketed."
