Wilcox Sentenced to Peniten

Charlotte, N. O., January 21 ?
After being out for 24 hours, the
jury in the Wilcox murder case
at Hertford, N. C., at 2 o'clock
this evening returned a vcrdicl
of murder in the second degree,
and the defendant was sentenced
to the penitentiary for 30 years
the full limit of the law. Wil
eox'fl attorneys gave notice thai
an appeal will be taken to the
supreme court. The prisoner will
be returned to jail at Elizabeth
City, where his alleged crime wai

The jurv sent word to the sher
iff at 11 o'clock lust night that il
desired that the charge he repeat
ed to them. This wan done thh
morning at 9 30 o'clock.
In sentencing the prisoner
Judge W. B. Couticill said ii

"The jury have seen fit. to return
a verdict of murder in Hi#
