The Trader Stood the Teat.
The following is accredited as
being a true story. It surely
brings to one's mind the saving
often-quoted: "Honesty is the
best policy."
Years ago a trader started a
post among a tribe of Western
Indiana, but at first found business
very dull and unprofitable.
The Indiana used often to come
in and look over his goods, but
they never bought anything.
Still the trader remained with
them.
One d?v the chief himself came
in. lie bought a blanket ffor
himself and a calico dress for his

"Pay you by'm by tomorrow,"
said the Indian. "Four otter
skins, you say? Good !"

trader to pay for his purchases.
He was escorted by his entire
band.
"Now I pay you," gruuted the

skins and laid them upon the
oounter.
"That's right," said he. "I pay
five otter skins."
But as ?much as the trader
would have liked to keep the
fifth otter skin, he had learned
away back in his boyhood that it
, pays to be square. Among his

After that prosperity came to
the honest trader. In course of
time the ttory came out. Tho
Indians had been en the search
for just such an honest palefsce.
They had made up this plan that,
if the trader took the fifth fur,
they would have no more dealines
with him.
"But now you Indians* friend ;
we trade with you." said the
chief.

New Trains From the NorthWest.
To induce tourists from the
East, North and West to visit
Florida and other Southern re
sorts, each year the Southern
Railway undertakes to'do a little
more than in previous years to
make the resorts of Florida and
the South more attractive to the
people of the East, North and
West and this season have put in
service the best tourists trains
that have ever been operated in
the South.
The first of these trains established
is "The Chicago and Floriida
Special", first trip southbound
January 5th, 19o3. This
train will have through sleepers
from Chicago, Pittsburg, Cleveland,
Detroit, Cincinnatti and
Louisville and are run through to
St. Augustine in very quick time.
Train will consist of very best
Pullman cars, dining cars and
club cars, etc. Between Chat
tanooga, Tenn., and Jacksonville,
Fla., there will be also provided
on this train a first class
coach, which will be of much an
comincdation to travel between
Chattanooga, Atlanta, Macon and
Jacksonville. Between Chattanooga
and Jacksonville the train
will only stop at Rome, Atlanta
and Macon.
Northbound this train will
leave St. Augustine, S: 15 a. m ;
Jacksonville, 9:2o a m; pass At
lanta, 6:2o p m , arrive Cincin
r.ati next morning, at which place
the sleeping cars diverge to various
lines reaching Chicago, Detroit,
Cleveland and I'ittsburg the
same alteruoon. This "Chicago
and Florida Special" was inaugurated
by the Southern Railway
two seasons ago, but this season
the train will be better than ever
before, and will do very much
towards diverting the people
from Chicago and the Northwest
to resorts ot Florida, instead ol
as heretofore they going to Mexi
co, California, etc.

All Dogs Found Within the
Limits of the Town of Lancaster.
BK IT ORDAINED BY THE
Mayor and Aldermen of the Town
of Lancaster in Council assembled
and by the authority of same:
Section 1. That an annual tax of
one ($1 00) dollar ia hereby assessed
and levied against the owner of each
log or bitch kept witnin the corporate
limits of said town, to be paid on
or before January 1st, 1908, and on or
before the 1st day of January each
and every year thereafter, 'i hat upon
the payment of said tax, the owner of
said dog or bitch shall be furnished
by fh" t'hief of Police with a tag,
which anal! be immediately placed

Sec. 2. That any dog or bitch found
running at large without the tag prescribed
111 Section 1 of this ordinance,
shall ba seized and Impounded by the
officer a of the Town, and unleaa the

an additional amount of twenty-five
cents, for the taking up of said dog or
bitch, is paid within thirty hours
from time of seizure, then said dog or
bitch shall forthwith be killed.
