this correspondence of ex Con
gressman Strait's extensive and
valuable granite interests in
this county. It is reliably re
ported that a representative of
the Southern will in a few days

way for a branch railroad to be
buflt from Heath Springs, the
Southern's nearest station, out
to the quarries, a distance of fi

Providing for an Annual Tax on
All Dogs Found Within the
Limits of the Town of Lancaster.
Be it ordained by tiie
Maj or anil Aldermen of the Town
of Lancaster in Council assembled
and by the authority of same:
Section 1. That an annual tax of
one I 00) dollar is hereby a-aesaed
and levied against the owner of each
dog or bitch kept within the corporate
limits of aaid town, to be paid on
or before January 1st, 1903, ami on or
before the l?t day of January each
aud every year thereafter, 'iliat upon
the payment of said tax, the owner of
I said dog or hitch shall be fumished
by the Chief of Police with a tag,
which shall be immediately placed
upon said dog or bitch by beiug attached
to a collar.
Sec. 2. That any dog or bitch found
running at large without tin tag prescribed
in Section 1 of this ordinance,
shall be seized and impounded by the
otllcers of the I own, and unless the
said lax of one dollar, together with
an additional amount of twenty-live
cents, for the taking up of said dog or
bitch, is paid within thirty hours
