Named for a Hustling Railroad Man, It is Keeping Up With the Times. Special to The Slate. Chesterfield, Nov. 14?Lyiug in the southern part of the county is the beautiful new town of McBee, so called after that gonial gentleman whose name is so popular in railroad circles. McBee dates its origin trom the building of the S,A.L. extension from Cheraw to Columbia. In the summer after the completion of the S A.L. the town was laid off and an auction sale of lots was held. Though only three years old, McBee is a town of some size. IJer streets are well laid off, the sidewalks are well thrown up, and everything preseuts a fine appearance where only three years ago wore forests of trees. There are in the town a score or more of business houses doing a large and thriving business. The principal commercial concern is the McBee Mercantile company which is composed of several prominent men. This concern has a large capital and does an immense tr#Ho The MoBee hotel, owned and run by Mr. Abb Bolin, is a large building of 15 rooms and he has regularly over a dozen boarders Mr. John T. Bailey, depot agent, is the iutendant of the town and is a very popular man. The immediate town has a population of several hundred, while just outside the corporation there are several large sawmills -nJ planing mills, with their numerous hands and laborers who would add very much to the town's inhabitants. On every side of the place there are saw and planing mills, the lumber industry being the main thing at present. Animation and life are seen on ever)' hand in this progressive tow. From this place the Charlotte. Monroe and Columbia railroad! starts. The road is completed from McBee to Hamburg and is J now in process of construction on ; j to Jell'erson.
