No one has touched a plum. The
speeches have maintained the
average lead as previously reported.
Gubernatorial candidates
as a rule, are always dignified
aud thoughtful. Only glances
are directed at the plum tree except
when certain temporary
breezes extended towards topmost
branches. Candidates, for
office of lieutenant governor have
occasionally made the leaves
flutter and almost shake the
fruit?but this plum is hanging
on. The groat seal of State is
still handled with becoming grace
and dignity aud no Hank movements
have been executed by the
rillemeu among the candidates
for office of adjutant general. So
also with candidates for office of
comptroller geueral, though the |
plum tree lias had some hard,
hot spasmodic shakes. At some
distance from the tree but with
vigor and determination the next
attorney general 01 South Carolina
has shown hm ability to handle
warm, knotty and thorny
questions. The educational plum,
so to speak, has changed its appearance
and location during the
past week, because of some fruit
culture, skilfully applied. The
rainbow hued, patent expansion
railroad plum seems almost to
have speech, so alluringly does
its juicy appearance steam up its
worshippers. "CJansler of Tirzah"
makes speeches that one always
listens to, so does ulionest
Engineer Sepsou." The plums,
every one of them, are still in
sight of all.
