which has boon in progress since
last Saturday was reached today
when l>eadly Morgan colord, whc

stake near Lansing. .
It was learned this morning
that the negro had been captured
and was be; ng taken to Lansing
for identification and by 11
o'clock great throngs had gather
ed at Lansing switch and lookiiu
over the ground decided to niakt
arrangements to burn the negrc
about a quarter of a mile awa\
on the hno of the rnnnfrv
The place of execution decided
upon was an open plot, smoothc
and covered with grass but hedg
rd in by high trees which formed
an opening 200 yards wide and
300 yards long. Tho trees were
literally lined with people en
hour before the negro arrived
At 11 o'clock the train bringing
the negro and his captors arrived
in Marshall, near which place he
wan captured, and was mot by a
great crowd of people. Many
rnoroiboarded the train at intermediate
points and when it ar
rived at Lansing every car waf
crucebd and crowded. Waiting
at Lansing was another large
crowd from Longview end tut
surrounding country.
The prisoner was then taker
from the train to the section
house which stands close to tbr
track and positively identified by
Mrs McKee and several r egroes
who worked on the :-ection with
Morgan. The negro waa escorted
