Some two weeks ago we Jeft
the null, monotonous walls ol
college and came home for the
holidays. A release from study
would have been pleasant in itself
; but home, loved ones and
old friends have made this vaca
tion a most happy one. We could
relate mauy very familiar inei
dents, but time forbids. Nevertheless,
we may say some few
things about the people of this '
section. ;
We are very glad to see this
kind and hospitable people in
such good circunjatauces. Almost
everybody has a little pocket
change and a few bales of cotton
which is being held for a better
price. All seem to wear the .
happy smile of contentment tin
less it is some jealous beau who
thinks his sweet-heart has looked 1
too favorably on an envied rival.
Of ar.urse, his Jong face gives
way to a "'five feet" smile when
she tells him there is no one els >
in the world so dear as him. Yes,
these old and young farmers are
contented. They are all happy, i
even the horse-swapping general I

patriotic and beautiful. It seems

elevating influence is felt and

A. C. Kowell, in our midst. He
has already taken commendable
steps which are but the beginning
ones of greater and more farreaching
importance. We hope
for him the strong arm of the
public for support, and may he
win for himself the well-deserved
plaudit "Well done."
Our communication with surrounding
towns is good at present,
but we hope to have better soon.
Mr. G. M. Plyler, a hustling business
young man, is looking after
this and we expect nothing but
success.
We are glad to say the health
of this community is good. Nothing
but a case or two of fever
mars the pleasure of good health.
Dr. W. il. tSapp is the physician.
lie has not lost a single case of
fever this year?a fine record.
Well, we are off for the dull
prison walls of college, still mem
ory lags behind. Of the past two
weeks wo have fond recollections
and tender regards. We have all
made new resolutions and prom
ises and lets profit by them. May
this people continue to bo happy
and prosper is my wish.

Marriage ol a Popular Couple in
Hock Hill.
Rock Hill, Jan. 0 -St John's
beautiful church this evening
at G o'clock first put on her
bridal array. It was beautiful
indeed. The chancel rail covered
with white was wreathed
witli the ivy's dark green and
crowned with a profusion of
potted plants. The whole rear
wall of the pulpit was a mass of
graceful garlands. Forming
the arch in front of which stood
the clernvman were two palm
trees,while the choir platform
was a bower of feathery ferns
and stately lillies.
The church was crowded from
pulpit to door. The occasion on
this brilliant gathering was the
marriage of two of our most
popular young people, Miss
Margaret Aston Bays and l>r
Win, Gilinore Stevens, and is of
interest to a circle of friends and
acquaintances in tho State.
Tho Ilev. II. W. Bays father
of the bride, officiated. lie was
assisted by his brother,the Rev.
Dr. W. W. Bays of Kali-buryN.O.
Miss Marion Johnson presided
at the organ and was accompanied
by Oapt. Iredell Jonas
and Mrs. W. B Strong upon
the yioliu and Prof. W.B.Strong
upon the clarionet.
Mendelssohn's beautiful Wedding
march invited the pair to
the altar, while Lohengrin sped!
their departure. The bridal j
party with its fair woman and
brave men formed a handsome
group as it gathered to hear
and witness the solem vows.
The bride wore mi-exquisite
gown of white satin with pearl I
trimmings and carried bride
roses.
The maid of honor and the
brides-maids wore white organ-1
die over tall'eta silk and carried j
white carnations. The grooms-j
men and ushers in full evening'
dress wore white carnation,
