A.. C. Kowell, in our undst. He
has already taken commendable
steps which are but the beginning
ones of greater and more farreaching
importance. We hope
for him the strong arm of the
public for support, and may he
win for himself the well-deserved
plaudit "Well done."
Our communieation with surrounding
towns is good at present,
but we hope to have better soon.
Mr. G. M. Plyler, a hustling business
young man, is looking after
this and we expect nothing but
success.
We are glad to say the health
of this community is good. Nothing
but a case or two of fever
mars the pleasure of good health.

Lie has not lost a single case of
fever this year?a fine record.
Well, we are off for the dull
prison walls of college, still mem
orv lags behind. Of the past two
weeks wo have fond recollections
and tender regards. We have all
'made new resolutions and prom
ises and lets profit by them. May
this people continue to bo happy
and prosper is my wish.

why?'' Of the entire 300 only
t wo orefered to be women, one
because "the female sex is good
without any troublo, but it is
hard for the male sex to be good
The second boy wanted to bo
a woman because "women have
more eense than men.1' Both,
fhese answers to be commended
to the attention of the
masculin sex. On the other
hand,ot 300 girls who wore asked
the same question 35 per cent
wished to he men. One desired
it because "men can vote and
talk politics."

lias sprung up. It is that of
love editor on a daily newspaper.
The love editor takes charge of
| all all airs of the heart for sentimental
young women in distress.
Since nearly all young
women are sentimental, the profession
must 1)0 a lucrative one.
Lately one of these mourning
young female souls wrote and
asked the love editor what to do
in the case of ditl'orenco in theology
between sweethearts. One
was Catholic, the other protestant.
The young man would not
marry the girl unless she adopted
his faith, which about broke
her heart, for she did not wish
! to change her religion because,
mark you the reason, "because
my folks would object." That
religious faith which is depend
ent on one's "folks" must have

Itock Kill.
Rock Hill, Jan. 9 -St John's
boautiful church this evening
at 0 o'clock first put on her
bridal array. It was beautiful
indeed. The chancel rail covered
with white was wreathed
with the ivy's dark green and
crowned with a profusion of
potted plants. The whole rear
wall of the pulpit was a mass of J
graceful garlands. Forming
tho arch in front of which stood
the clergyman were two palm
trees,while the choir platform
was a bower of feathery ferns
and stately lillies.
The church was crowded from
pulpit to door. The occasion on
this brilliant gathering was tho
marriage of two of our most
popular young people, Miss
Margaret Aston Rays and I)r
Win. Gilmore Stevens, and is of
interest to a circle of friends and
acquaintances in tho State.
Tho Rev. II. W. Bays father
of the bride, officiated. He was
assisted by his brother,the Rev
Dr. W. W. Bays of SalisburyN.C.

trimmings and carried bride
roses.
