Kershaw, S. 0., Dec. 21.?Ou Tuesday morning, December the lSili, 1900 inst., as the great old King of day drove his burning chariot (hrone into the mid heavens and moved his sceptre :n noon tide triumph over a day as perfect, as calm and as gloriously beautiful as ever kissed the earth sinco that early time when light, beauty and glory guided by hand devine first llung their mantles of azure over a new made world and moving stars made music over the cradle of an infant universe. There was an event in one of Kershaws most beautiful churches which was in perfect accord with the perfect glory of the warm December day, the occasion to which we refer was the marriage of Miss Matilda Croxton, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mr-.. W. L. Croxton, to Mr. S. Neely Mil'er of Columbia. For this happy occasion the Baptist church had been put in the most attractive order by will ing hands of friends of the bride under the supervision of Mrs. J. A. M cCaskill, who is without a peer in the decorative art. Ilev. Jabez Farris, pastor of the bride, in a solumn impressive and graceful manner, performi d the m irriage service. The church itself, a thing of beauty, had a mound of palms, I oleanders and other hot house l plants erected within the baptist try just to the rear of the platform, on the front of the stage tl,?0 ? i :...i v. n un cir^icvi a ucau i 11 u l art'Il OI ivy, while roses and other flowers, those emblems ot love and puri ty whose presence are always welcome whether on marriage altar cradle or coffin and whoso beauty was only surpassed by t hat of t he bride. Miss Annie May Mai tin, clas9 mate of the bride very artistical ly rendered Mendlesohn's wed ding march and just as the soft, sweet strains lloated out upon the morning air the ushers, Messrs. Dr. W. C. Tvvitty, cousin of the bride, and John T. Stevens en lered. They were followed by liitle Misses CI ira Croxton, youngest sister of the bride, and Rosa Witherspoon, next came little Mary Hays and Ottilee Mc Caskill, those four little girls dressed in white organdy and wearing a bunch of violets, acted as brides maids and were striking emblems of pristine purity and angelic love. Next came the I bride on the arm of her brother, I John S. Croxton Jr., and the groom with his twin brother Mr. Claude Miller of Augusta Ga. All the attendants wore violets. There was literally a "heap" I of beautiful, useful and elegant ' presents in token of the many 'friends of these popular young i people. The bride is one of Kershaw's most deservedly popular young ladies, highly cultured and a mag nificient gem of feminine beauty and a type of loveliness itselt She is as beautiful in character as in person and will make Mr. Miller a model wife. The groom is a noble, robust type of manhood, eminent in his calling, is by birth and education i a gentleman. May this union which we record be a peaceful one ever intt r mingled with love and harmony as they go through this life, and when they enter the lile unknown may it be to them a brighter glory, greater usefnlnessness, and hap pier existence. -Claik. Death of Mr. J. (1. 1'oag. Mr. J. C. l'oag, father of our townspeople, Mr. J. L Poag .and Mrs. J. M Hood, died Tuesday last. They both were with their father when he died. The following Rock Hill special to The stale says: Followed by a large concourse of friends the remains of the late Jas. Chauncey L'oag were laid to rest in Laurel wood cemetery yesterday at noon. The deceased was a man of high character and one of the most highly respected men of the county. This was attested by the large number of the friends who gathered for the last honors. The funeral was con ducted from St. John's M. E. church by the prstor, the Rev. J S. Beasley. The bearers of the pall were: Capt. L. M Davis, Mr. Arnold Friedheim, Dr. I. Simp ton, Mr. .fas. F.
