Mrs. Amanda, wife of Mr. Jno.
M. Daniels, died at her home at
Thickety, in this county, last Friday
morning at 9:30. Mrs. Daniels
had been sick more than a
year and succumbed to the raveges
of cancer. Her last days were
filled with pain almost unbearable
and death came as a relief to
her long suffering. Mrs. Daniels
was Amanda Smith, the daughter
of Col. and Mrs. Samuel F. Smith,
one of the largest planters of
ante-bellum days. She was married
in January, 1868, to Mr. J.
M. Daniel, who, together with
three children, survive her. Her
childron are Mrs. Ed. Turner, of
this city, Mr. John Daniel, Jr., of
Rock Hill, and Mrs. Wm. Noblet.
who resided with Mrs. Daniel at
Thickety. Mrs. Daniel was a
consistent member of the Baptist
church, holding her membership
with the First Baptist church of
this city. The funeral service
took place from the First Baptist

and was largely attended by relatives
and friends. The interment
took place at Limestone cemetery.
The pall bearers, on this
occasion, were Messrs. J. T. Rodgers,
W. F. Brown, F. G. Briggs,
Jonas Vassey, Prof. R. O. Saras
and Alderman J. H. Turner.?

Farmers Wanted.
There are now wanted in York
county, South Carolina, along the
line of the Southern Railway,
some good progressive farmers to
take up and make productive the
undeveloped farm lands of that
section. This county has some
fine level lands, though its surface
is broken to a considerable :
extent. A red and yellow el ay ]
underlays the sandy and the clay
loam soils, and in the valleys is
found a deep vegetable loam. Tobacco,
fruit and grapes do well,
though the main crops are cotton,
corn, wheat, ete. There are great
varieties of oak, hickory, short- ,
leaf pine, ash, poplar and some
sycamore and tulip. There are a ,
number of very progressive points,
the more important being Fort
Mill and Rock Hill, which are
now centers of cotton manufacturing,
which will, when present ,
developments are completed, be
considerably increased. The land 1
in this vicinity is quite low in 1
price, and is easily improved. Information
