Robert Thompson, all colored,
Sunday afternoon just as he:
was boarding the west bound
train at the Davis stand colored
church between Caskey's and
Riverside. It seems that Thompson
had cut one of these fellows
pretty badly on a former occasion
and that he had left. Sunday ho,
with others, took the down train j
for the meeting at Davis stand,
and the Crawford negroes saw
him, and as he was boardirg the
train they fired three shots wound
ing him pretty seriously. In the
tr.oloe, it is said that Capt Barksdale,
the conductor in charge,
narrowly escaped being shot, one
of the balls having gone through
his pants leg. The negroes that
did the shooting have skipped,
and deputy sheriff Wilson has
been unable to find them. They
sent word that they would come

negro was taken on to Catawba
Junction where he lives.
