or you must shut up shop.

proceeds to do as we suggest.
The law of the land recognizes
that the liquor traffiic is a menace
to the public good, a breeder of
disorder and a promoter of crime.

more speedily than mere intoxication
would. The dispenser for

standing temptation to drunkenness
which few of its patrons resist.
The dispensary meets the
legitimate demand hut discourges
the illegitimate demand for liquor
by the reversal of every expedient
which the saloon uses for in
creasing business. Reason must
teach the same lesson that experience
has taught, in Sweden,
in South Carolina, and in North
Carolina too, that the dispensary
decreases drunkenness as compared

Accident or Outrage.
Orangeburg, Oct. .'I.?A sad
and deplorable accident occurred
near Kcraft's mill, in
this county, on last Sunday afternoon,
resulting in the death
of a most estimable gentleman,
Mr. .1. 11. W. 11 vdrick, and lite
painful injury of his wife.
Mr. ami Mrs. llvdriek were
returning home from church in
a buggy, little dreaming what
an awful fate was in store for
them, when suddenly, from the
rear and without any warning
whatever, they were driven
into by a negro driving at a]
fearful rate of speed, his horse J
and buggy literally tearing
through Mr. Ilydrick's turnout.
Mr. Hydrick ami his wife
were thrown a considerable dis|
tance, where they lay for some
time before receiving aid. The
black perpetrator of this dastardly
act continued on his way
