The angel of death visited our home Aug. 21, 1900, and bore away our darling baby, Ethel Hawtance, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Bowers. Little Hawtance was 2 months and 3 weeks old on the day of her death. How sad it was to Rtand around her cradle as the angels hovered near to bear her spirit home. But, we bow in humble submission, to him that doeth all things well. The remains were interred in Forkhill cemetery. Bryan Threatened. Omaha, Neb., Aug 25?Mm. N. Williams, an avowed anarchist, confidentially informed a fellow-working in Snielton today that he intended to assassinate Bryan at Jackson at a picnic this afternoon Ho asked anothor workman to help him. The man refused and notified the police. Williams was then promptly arrested He is now in jail. When Bryan arrived from his home in Lincoln he was notified by the police of the plot against his life He took the matter coolly. Vienna, Aug. 26?The Politische Correspondent asserts that the French government has expressed its readiness to interchange opinions with the powers regarding more stringent measures against anarch ists, believing that the present means of repression are inadequate. The Hungarian government has ordered a search for a number of anarchists whose descriptions are given. This action is believed to be due to the Italian government's statement that 20 anarchists have recently left the United States to assassinate European sovereigns. Bryan's First Week's Work. Lincoln, Neb., Aug. 20.?Mr. Bryan returned to Lincoln from Omaha this morning in time to attend church. His return today may be said to mark the completion of his first week of active work in the present campaign Begining with his speech at Walioo Tuesday, he made during the week eleven addresses, besides a number of brief talks from the rear platform of trains on which he traveled, one of these speeches being the reply to the Populist notification. The week was a fair test of Mr. Bryan's physical endurance as well as of his mental versatility. He did not seem, however, to regard the weeks experience as in any sense exceptional, but, on the contrary, spoke of it lightly. Mr. Bryan will leave here Wednesday for Chicago, where he will witness the sham battle of the Grand Army on Thursday. He will remain in Chicago for several days.
