were returning fiom a visit to 1

noon the nuile they were driving
became frightened at some dogs
fighting and ran away, throwing :

injuring the two ladies as well as |

As Mr. Sam Watson was driv
ing out of town Monday afternoon
his mule became frightened
at two negroes riding bicycles
and ran away. The wagon struck J

and breaking his collar bone, be

Wm. Porter, col.. shot and
killed Eliza Jane Tillman at Os j
ceola last Friday afternoon.
Whether the shooting was accidental
or not is not known. Por
ter claims that it was; the wo
man in ante mortem statement
said she did not know.
Porter's story is that he went
to the woman's house Thursday
night and stayed until Friday 1
evening, when he told her to get 1
up and get him something to eat.
She ditl not do it. He reached
under the pillow and got his pis ,
tol, and as he took it out it went
off' and shot the woman in the
stomach, from the eff ect of which

Coroner Young went up Mon
day and held an inquest over the
body. The verdict of the jury who
that the woman came to her
death by a pistol shot in the
hands of Wm. Porter.
Porter was brought to town <
and lodged in jail Tuesday morn
