SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 1900 TILLMAN HOME AGAIN. Ooes to South Dakota This Summer to Help the Democracy. Senator Tillman came down from Washington yesterday and went on to his home at Trenton. The senate was to have adjourned sine die the night he left Washington, but had not done so on account of some hitch,, but there was no important legislation pending. He did not stop at Rock Hill for the meeting of the board of trustees of Winthrop. Senator Tillman will hardly be with the boys through the game this sammer. lie will go to the first campaign meeting? at Orangeburg?but, as lie thinks his political fences are in satisfactory condition, he will go out to South Dakota and help Senator Pettigrew in his campaign for re-election. Pettigrew has been a thorn in the flesh to the Republicans, and they are making a desperate effort to heat him Senator Till man may attend some of the meetings in this State to show his gratitude,as he expresses it, but ho will not get into half of the counties. He will aid in the national Democratic fight in states other than South Dakota. When asked what he thought of Mr. Bryan's chances, Mr. Tillman said that if the Democrats did not win with the present opportunities, they could never do so. His tone was very hopeful. Arthur Phillips, pastor of the M. E. church, preached an able sermon on "The Doctrines of the Methodist Church," last Sunday at 11 o'clock. Prof. W. T. Binum, principal of the Oakhurst Graded school, left on Tuesday for his home.' Ml*. Binum is a splendid teacher I and deservedly popular with his patrons. Mrs. Chalmers Moore, who has been visiting at Mrs. L. M. Bell's returned home Friday. Miss Matilda Croxton, of Kershaw, has a music class in town. She comes up twice a week to give her pupils instructions. Mr. Amory Ciockett visited his sister in Richburg last Saturday and Sunday. Miss Lizzie Miller is visiting in Rock Hill this week. Mrs. J. T. Mackey returned home Thursday. Prof. Cauthen, ot the Univer sity of Alabama, is visiting his mother at this place. Miss Dillie Duke, of Jacksonville. Fla., is visiting Miss Sallie Turner here.
