Mail publishes the following dis
patch from the Earl of Rosslynn
who was a prisoner at Pretoria,
but who, as a civilian, appears to
have been released:
"Pretoria. May 30.?Pretoria
will be occupied in about two
hours, without resistance. The
president has gone to Waterval
boven. Burgomaster Do Souza is
authorized to receive the British.
He, with an influential commit
tee of citizens, including Chief
Justice Gregor Grogorowski, has
been appointed to preserve life
and property during the inter
regnum.
' Everything is quiet but
^crowds are waiting expectantly
in Church square for the arrival
of the British.
Fearing a possible dist urbance
and bloodshed among the prison
ers of war at NVaterville, U. S.
Consul Hay and Leigh Wood insisted
upon 20 officers being libe
rated on parole to go to the men.
His action cannot be too highly

meeting called this morning
by the burgomaster of Pretoria, a
committee was appointed to keep
the public order.

It is reported that there is a

think that guerilla warfare

and bandits.
The investigation of the charge
against Hrig. (Jen. Frederick
Funston of having summarily executed
two natives of the province

a discontinuance of the proceedings.

signed by ten voters and freeholders
resident in Lancaster School
District, we, the undersigned, Trustees
of said District, do hereby call a
public meeting to be composed of nil
those voters who are resident in and
return for taxation in said District
real or personal property of the value
of not )uss than one hundred dollars,
to assemble in the Court House at
Lancaster, S. C., on Friday the 3ftlh
day of May, 1000, at 4 o'clock p. m., for
the purpose of electing a chairman
and secretary of said meeting, five
