Hill on the evening of the 31st
inst., on the subject, ''Manhood
and Money". A special train will
bo run over the S C. & G. E.,
passing Lancaster at G 55 p. m.,
round trip fare 80 cents.
Lamp Exploded.
While Mr. F, M. McAteer and
family were at supper Monday
night the lamp caimbt tire, Mrs.
McAteer attempted to blow it
qut but the blaze was two large
and she set it down in the door
of the kitchen, when it exploded,
but for the timely assistance of
Mr MA't'i's brother there
would have been a very serious
fire.
Four Mills Voted.
Pursuant to the call of tho
board of trustees, a meeting of
taxpayers was held in the court
house yesterday afternoon at 4
o'clock and a tax of 4 mills was
voted for school purposes for
she next scholastic year. The
old hoard of trustees was unanimously
elected, as follows:

W T. Gregory, Chas. T. Connors
and J. E. Taylor.
After the meeting adjourned,
the hoard of trustees met and
organized hy the .election of
Major B F Miller as chairman
and Chas T Connors as secretary
and treasurer.

by a visit from President Johnson
and his girls.

the Slate campaign. It opens at
Orangeburg on the 14th of June <
aid winds up in Columbia on
August 22nd. It will be in Lan
caster on July 25th.
Wmthrop Will Co to Lancaster.
By direction of President I). B.
Johnson, Professors Breazeale and
Abbe went to Lancaster last Sat
urday and selected a hill about
four miles southeast of the town,
through which the S. C. & (1 Ex.
road passes, from which tlie faculty
and students of Winthrop I
will view the eclipse next Monday
morning. Arrangements have
been made with the railroad authorities
for a special train, which
will leave the college grounds at
6 30 o'clock in the morning, ar
riving on the grounds at about
7 o'clock. Alter the eclipse the
students will go to the town of
Lancaster, where they will remain
several hours, returning to the
college in time tor dinner at 1.30
o'clock.
There will be room on the train
for a few citizens and application
should be made at. once to Presi
dent Johnson.
The point selected for observa
tion is immediately on the central
line of totality. 'However, the
eclipse will be total in Rock Hill,
but. the darkness will not be as
intense as along the central line
