months 1 passed one full month,
May, at home, and during the
rest of the year managed to get
another month, three weeks and
five days to spend with my family.
Some of that time, notably my
trip to Yosemite valley and the
short trip to Texas, this winter,
my family was with me.
"On my trips, whenever it is
practicable and the people desire
it, I say a few words. Sometimes
they are very few, and again they
rise to the dignity of a speech.
During the campaign last fall, or
where I was hilled for a talk, I
spoke from 30 to 40 minutes.
When I am whirling across the

are short, not more than five to

had last year were in May, when
I stayed at home to pet in the
crop of my little farm in Ne
braska; then after the campaign,
when I went with Colonel YVetmoie
down in Taney county, Mo.,
and lastly my visit with my wife

returned from that trip by way of
Monticello, 111., where we have a
daughter at school.
"I have attended Jackson day
dinners in Chicago, Omaha and
Minneapolis and Nebraska this
year. From here I go to Frankfort,
Ivy., Cincinnati, New York
and through the New England
States,lecturing on 'Fending prob
lems. It will he spring, I suppose
before I see Lincoln again."
From memory, Colonel Hrvan
gave his itinerary in 18111). His
travels took him to California, to
New York, to Texas and to Min
nesota. It shows that he has
traveled approximately .38,70(1
miles. lie says his average is

last year he covered 20,000 miles

recently says that an official re
port made to the Nines county
hoard of supervisors that morn
ing reveals an appalling slate ot
aftairs in the southern part of the
county. The community is liter
ally honey comhed with small
pox of the most violent and loath

weeks there have heen nearly
100 deaths. Some days there
were so many that it was im
possible to see,ore colli ins and
rude caskets were made from rails.
Whole families are wiped out.
The board will make an effort to
check the further spread of the
