Women
If a person is ill and needs a medicine
is it not wise to pet one that lias
stood the test of time and has hundreds
of thousands of cures to its
credit ?
A great many women who are ill try
everything they lieur of ill the way of
medicine, and this experimenting with
unknown drugs is a constant menace
to their already impaired health.
Thus seems to us very unwise, for
there are remedies which are no experiments
and have been known years
and years to be doing only good.
Take for instance Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound; for thirty
years its reeord fcus been one unbroken
ehain of success. No medicine
for female ills the world has over
known has such a record for cures.
It seems so strange that some people
will take medicines about which they
really know nothing, some of which
might be, and are, really harmful ;
whilg on the other hand it is easily
proved that over one million women

E. Pinkhnm's Vegetable Compound.
We have published in the newspapers
of the United States more
genuine testimonial letters than have
ever been published in the interest of
any other medicine.
rf\ll this should, and does, produce a
spirit of confidence in the hearts of
women which is difficult to dislodge,
and when they are asked to take something
else they say, " No, we want
Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Coinpound,
which has been tried, ami
never found wanting, w hose reliability
is established far beyond the experimental
stage."

For some lime there has been
I
quite a contest over the post*
tnustership atUheraw, 8. 0. Many ' !
petitions and delegations have
come to Washington in favor of
the various candidates who are
contending for tfie ?nppointn. nt.
It is expected that an appointment
will be announced within
the next few days. In fact it
was expected that the name of * flj
the successful candidate would be
announced last week, but th^ j
matter was postponed, it is stated;* 41
j to allow the post office department
j more time to consider the quali
ifications of the candidates. Many
j of the applicants are backed bv
the senators and various members
oi uic ueicgauon m me house.
' Among them are E M. Wells, W.
A. Ronton and W. 0 McCreight.
The retiring post,master was a
colored lawyer who tendered his
resignation, it is wiid here, to
practice his profession. The assistant
postmaster, R. E. Highland,
a barber, is an applicant for
the olfico also and although a great
effort is being made tor the appointment
of a white man it is
said that Highland stands about
as good a chance of receiving the
the appointment as any. At the
post office department the other
day it was intimated that if the
South Carolina people could get
together on one candidate the
chances for the appointment of a
white man would he much improved.
Last Saturday night senator
Tillman went over to Baltimore
for the purpose of being present
at the hig Bryan meeting held
there under the auspices of the
Maryland Democratic association
i and Bryan club of Baltimore city.
The senator returned to Wash
ington Sunday and was in his
seat in the senate on Monday.4
During the dispute in the sen
uto over I lie Pritchard resolution
on Monday. Senator Tillman once ** *
or twice interrupted Senator
I'ritchard during his speech, and
a-.Ued ilio North (Carolina senator
some very pointed questions regarding
the appointmentinent of
N. .iro post masters in tho.State of
South Carolina. If. is said that
Senator Tillman will make a
speech during the debate on the
resolution on the subject of Negro
domination in the South, and if
lie does there is likely to In* a hot
