The cotton future market broke
all to pieces yesterday upon the
government's estimate of the crop
at 9^ million bales. Thursday,
January, sold at 7.fi4. It went
down yesterday to 7.29 and closed
at that figure.

The Dentist Off" the Chain Gang.
Dr. J. E. Rutledge paid the $20
fine imposed by the town council
of Kershaw Wednesday and
was thereupon released from the
chain gang. lie passed through
Lancaster that afternoon in com
pany with his brother, Dr. Gettys
Rutledge on his way to Kershaw.
We understand his purpose for
allowing himself to be put upon
the chain gang was to bring a
suit against the mayor and the
policeman and possibly the town
for damages.
