Heath Spring on Sunday morn
ing last with a view, in the first
place, of attending services at the
Baptist church there and further,
we surmise, acting on the principle

better the deed" he sought and
found a solace to his disquieted ,
nerves the object of his search
being the society of one of its fair
daughters?as cupid, ever on the
alert, can be relied upon for the
quality of his arrow and the accu
racy of his aim. Wo bespeak for
him ever so pleasant a stay and a
prolonged visit.
Ten cotton picking machines,
invented by Angus Campbell and
made in Pittsburg, are about to
be shinned to the south for spr
vice this fall, says the New York
Tribune. Mr. Campbell has been
at work on this invention for
years, making one improvement,
after another, as experience suggested.
Last year encouraging
results were attained, and an
order for ten machines was given.

Death of Mrs. It. F. Miller. I
Mrs. Emma A. Miller, wife of
Major B F. Miller, of Lancaster,
died last Saturday at about 2 *
o'clock of paralysis, of which she 1
had been a long sufferer. The 1
first, stroke came in .January, ..
189G ; the second in the spring J
of 189.8 ; the third in December, j
1898 ; the fourth and last stroke
on Friday morning last, from
which she did not recover.
Mrs. Miller was the second j
daughter of tho lato John It. and (
Harriet Welsh, and was born on
January 20, 1S42, in Lancas
tor district. She was married '
to Major B. F. Miller on 1
Deceniher 17, 1S0S. There were
nine children horn to them as the
result of this happy union, all
of whom, except one, survive her,
viz : Mrs. L. C. Lazenby, Mr.
John A. Miller, Mrs. K. B. Mack-,]
ev.of Heath Spring, Miss Minnie.
Mrs. J. 1* Hackney, of Italeigh,
N. C., Misses Lily, llattie and
Pearl. She leaves besides her!(
immediate family five brothers 1
and one sister?Dr. C. O., Capt. 1

She was at the time of her
death in her 5Sth year, and was
a member of the Methodist rhurch
of which she had been a consistent
member for some time and a
good christian woman.
