?Sam McDaniel, colored, accidentally
shot himself in the Walkup
section Saturday, lie was
hunting and laid his gun on the
roultd and when he went to pick
it up he struck the hammer
against a tree. The load took
effect in the abdomen, producing
death in a short time. Coronerj

j ?The city of Greenville was
on the verge of a race war Sunday
night, white and black were
armed and badly excited. The
trouble started by a report that
the mill op ratives were going to
lynch one Zach Brown, a negro,
who that evening had shot into
the house of a mill operative.
One of the Militia companies was
called out and it is thought that
their presence prevented an outbreak.
