Death of Mrs. Susan Kentngton.
Mrs. Susan Kenington, wife of
the late Samuel Keoington died
Wednesday evening of paralysis
at the home of her grandson, Mr.

The election for cotton weighers
for Lancaster, Ileath Spring and
Kershaw comes off next Tuesday
There are five candidates for the
position at Lancaster, live for that
at Kershaw, and three for the

place at Ileath Spring. The new
law cuts down the price for
weighing to 5 cents per hale, but i
there seems to be a demand for
the position notwithstanding that
reduction.

A Costly Piece of Meat.
Ilenry Cousart, colored, who
lives on Messrs. T. M. Fitzpatrick
& Hros. Massey plantation, was
up before Magistrate Caskey on
Thursday morning on the charge
of stealing meat from the store of
Messrs. Funderburk Co. Saturday
last. He was given the option of
paying a fine of $10 or go to the
chaingang for 30 days. He paid
the fine and cost, which amounted
to $10.40.

Officials Nay That the
Southern Railway Will Noon
be Running to Clieraw.
Clieraw, Aug. 2.?The correspondent
of the Columbia State
from this place alludes to the
'Clieraw and Lancaster Railroad."
It is the Chesterfield and Lancaster
Railroad, but leads from Cheraw
to Lancaster. This correction
is made to correct the impression
that it is to built only from Ches
lerlield C. II. to Lancaster. Work
is to begin at Clieraw and it will
sjo via Chesterfield court house.

Chesterfield and Lancaster Rail
road, who is spending some time
at Society Hill, was, hero this
weeK in consultation with I'resiient
G. J. Redfearn, of that road.

Railway operating a line into
