Drummers Ys. Trusts.
When the Farmers' Alliance
was organized and even up to a
few months ago, the traveling
drummers were its most bitter
and persistent enemies. They
doubtless thought the Alliance
would hurt their business. They
laughed the Alliance to scorn its

trusts and combines. The dfymmers
seemed to think that trusts
.and. combines were God's angels
to save the world and ?ive it re
ligious, political and social liberty.
And it was amusing to see
how business men, and even city
preachers and religious editors
would listen to their tine logic
und musical words, and did not
only sanction it, but repeated it
and rolled in on their tongues as
a sweet morsel.
But how things have changed,
how the mighty fallen! These
350,000 traveling gentlemen are
beginning to learn some sense,
and to see that as trusts lormed
the}* can do their work with less
drummers; and up to date over
50.000 of these nten have lost
their jobs, and must go into the
work shops or corn fields and
. work for less wages, or they and
their families perish. It is said
the Tobacco trust alone has ret
down 3,500 of these political ed
ucators and trusts defenders. This
is too bad for them to come down
to such a condition.
And what do we see? Why we
see them now undertaking just
what, they so heroically abused
the farmers and laboring men for
doing. They have decided to organize
in self defense. It was
wrong for farmers to do this, but
all right for them now. It was
even foolish for the farmers to or
ganize, but wise in them. You
see it makes a difference as to

On the oOt,h, one thousand delegates
from this one class of freemen,
will meet in-Albany, and
"resolute" against these same
combines and trusts. They will

doubtless condemn Cleveland's]
policy which they once loved so
well. Now while we regret to see
such conditions, yet it must come
before enough of our fellow fiti- j
zona will work together to save
the country from tried and com
bine rule. We are elad we have
been spared to see this. We hope]
to live ! i s? e some other e!a-??-liave
to take a dose ol their own
medicine. History will record the1
fact that, farmers were tiast t<>
feel and see this, ami that they'
acted patiiotically.
When the work ol trusts and
combines is felt in every spherej
in church and stale .is it lias been
and is beins; felt by burners and '
the drummers?we mean when
they all tret their eyes open, then
this country will again declare;
for that independence she so

Death of Rev. J no. Faile.
On the 25th instant at 8:30 p.
m. Rev. Jno. Faile of Flat Creek
quietly breathed his last in the
presence of his immediate family
and few intimate friends. While
he had been confined to his bed
only a very short time his death
was not unexpected as he had
been in failing health for some
time. The immediate cause of
death was Briglu's disease from
which he had been suffering for
quite a while. He was born De1

lore 77 years old. When quite a
young man he was married to
Mis Martha Kennington, who now
survives him. Nine children were
borp to them, five ot whom are
still living.
Mr. Faile entered the Confederate
army in April, 1861, and
remained in servico throughout
the war. Soon after the war he
entered the Haptist ministry and
since then lus time has been spent
in pointing sinners to Christ.
His style has always been plain
and matter of faet, yet under his
preoehing many sinners have been
converted and under his super
vision several churches were
organized, notably among the
latter being old Laurel Hill church

Ironi town and was tho original
Kershaw Baptist church.
His remains were interred in
the fami-ly burying ground near
Charlesboro church on the 27th
inst., in the presence of several
hundred relatives and friends.
The tuneral services were con
ducted by Rev. T. A. Dabney in
a very able and impressive man
ner.
In his death the community
loses a good citizen, the church a
worthy member and an earnest
and honest pastor.
We extend our sympathy to
the bereaved widow and children
in their sad hour of allliction.?
