A COMPRESS COMBINE.
Efforts to Organize a Trust to
Fight Improvements.
In view of the attacks upon the
Roundlap bale of the American
Cotton Company, and the cry of
of "trust" against the manufac
turers of the machine for making
those bales raised by the owners
of compresses and others the following
letter, indicating a "cornbine"
of a different sort, is ot
peculiar interest. The letter was
forwarded to the Atlanta Constitution
by Richard Cheatham,
editor of the Cotton Planter's
Journal, of Memphis, Tenn. It
is as follows :

proposed to consolidate by purchase
or otherwise some of the
most desirable compresses in the
Southern States, provided such
consolidation can Ire arranged on
a conservative basis.
"We are in consultation with

methods, more uniform systems
of compressing (aided by the
adoption of the standard box), to
obtain lower rates of insurance
and secure lower rates of frejirlit
to foreign and domestic points."We

both to you and to us of utilizing

new business, as well as youi

Yellow Fever Breaks Out in Soldiers
Home at llainptoii.
Newport News, Va., July 30.?
1 There are thirty cases of what is
believed to be genuine yellow
fever at the National . Soldiers'
Home near Hampton and three
deaths from the disease were reported
today. There were several
other deaths at the institution
yesterday but it cannot be stated
tonight that all of them were

caused by yellow fever. Newport
News and Hampton will quarantine
against the Soldiers' Homo
tomorrow. The government authorities
at Old l'oint have al
ready adopted this step and no
street cars are allowed to enter
the leservation. Quarantine officer
Ilofison of this port went to
j the Soldiers' Home tonight and
verified the statement that there
| are now thirty cases of the disease
at the home and that there
I were three deaths from the mal.
