CRAWFORD NOT GUILTY.
The Jury Drought in The Verdict
at Noon.
Camden, S. O., June 8.? At, 11
o'clock the Crawford jury was
still out. They came in an hour
ago to ask for an explanation of
a point of law. They have been
out since 9 last night.
At noon the jury in the Crawford
case returned a verdict of
not guilty. There was no demonstration.
The jiidire warned the crowd
against it.
Crawford released without

Senator Scarborough Must Resign
Columbia, June 7.?The attorney
general has rendered an opinion
that Senator Scarborough
must regularly take the oath of
t ) as lieutenant governor and
consequently he will have to
resign as senator from Horry
county.
He has been notified of this
decision.
There will he two vacancies in
the house also, Captain Rlack, of
Colleton, being connected with
the dispensary, and I)r. Sturkie,
of Orangeburg, being physician

Urgent Call for as Many White
Soldiers as Possible.
New York, June 8.?It is reported
that five thousand recruits
will be called for to go into active
service in the Philippines imme
diately. It is substantiated by
United States recruiting officers
in this city, who state that they
received an order yesterday to
send as many white troops as
possible to the Philippines. No
definite number was staled. They
sent twelve men to Chicago last
night, from which they will proceed
to San Francisco. They expect
to send as many every day.

have been posted that five thous
and whites are wanted in the
Philippines. These are in front of
the recruiting station.
