hopes and aims of that organiza>
tion:
"Anyone who has thought for a
moment on the declaration of
purposes of the Farmers'Alliance,
must have become imbued with
a just dense of the spirit of righteousness,
the desire for an equality
of opportunity for all, and
the principle of brotherly love,
freed from all 'sectional and National
prejudices, and selfish ambitioii*
that breathes through sentence.
It is With the desire to
see rebuilt and reorganized the
dormant and somewhat scattered
forces of this great, influential
and humanitarian organization
that we issue this appeaj to the
thousands, lowers of 'equal rights
for all and special privileges to
none,' who in times past have

The fruition of those hopes
which he so ardently desired were
not realized. Brethern, would he
say if he could speak to us, that
the mission of that great organization
of which he was the leader,
and for which he devoted the
best years of his lite, was ended
and fulfilled? No! His vision
was not bounded by the narrow
range of a simple personal insurance
nor obscured by sectional
prejudices, partisan zeal or political
bigotry.. It was as broad
as the union of States and embraced
the hope for the welfare,

A Serioiia Difficulty.
A difficulty occurred last Sun
day morning between Messrs
Aaron Knight and U. A. 1*. Hunter,
of tfie Taxahaw section, in
which the former was severely in
.jured. It seems, from what we
can learn, that after the men fell
out Hunter, at whose home the
difficulty occurred, went into the
house alter his gun, and while he
was gone |Kni ght started off, but
Hunter went after him, overtook
him, and struck him over the
head with the gun, knocking him
down. As Knight attempted tc
get up, Hunter struck him again,
The wounded inan was still living
at the last accounts, but is in
a critical condition, as his skuII is
fractured.

The finance committee of the
Baptist Building fund reported tc
the Baptist church last Sunday
morning that they have been
pushing their work, that tlie responses
have been generous, and

by subscription is such as to justify
the Building committee to
receive bids for the work on the
new church but that the Building
committee twill not finally
