Will Lancaster Assist. A commendable movement is now on foot throughout the State to raise funds to rebuild the home of Gen. Wade Hampton, recently burned, together with most of his library, at Columbia, 8. C. A number of counties have already contributed for that purpope, and several hundred dollars have been raised. SHOUITNU PARTYTT HONE A PATH. Editor Moore Uses Gun on Merchant Sharp. Greenwood, May 6.?There was a little shooting party at Iionea rath this afternoon in which Edtor Moore, of the Honea Path Chronicle, was the ahopter and W. C. Sharp, a merchant of the town, was the shootee. The trouble grew out of gome reference in thin week's iss'ie of The Chronicle to the affaira of the firm of SI arpe A Robinson, which have been in bad shape for some time. The firm failed this week. This afternoon Sharpe called Moore to per sonal account for the publication and the difficulty followed. Sharpe seems to have been aggressor, and had Moore backed against a wall, when Moore drew a pistol and fired two BhotR, one ball struck Sharpe in the abdomen, inflicting a nerioufl though not necessarily fatal wound. The second shot passed through Sharpens leg and struck a brick wall, glancing and inflicting a slight flesh wound in the leg of Q. W. Hush, standing noar. Passengers on the incoming train from Uonea Path say public sentiment is genearally in favor of Moore, and that he was justifiable.?The State. % Death of Croxton Small. The death angel has visited our borne again and claimed Croxton as its victim. Croxton was a good and obedient son and a kind and affectionate brother. He was aged. 17 years 6 months and 24 days. President Henry Hartzog ol Clemson college has completed all the arrangements forthe farm era' institutes to be held in man; of the counties of the State thic summer aud has made the follow ing announcement in regard tc them: Farmers' institutes will be held in a limited number of counties this summer for the instruction of the people in various branches of agricultural science. The course of lectures will be arranged to present to those in attendance the results of the most recent investigations in theoretical and nractical aprirnhnrn >nrl < far aR possible, to make the subjects discussed meet the special needs of the locality where the institute is held. All expenses of the meeting will be met by the college. The community in which the institute is held is expected to provide a suitable place for the speaking to advertise the meeting and tc arrange the minor details. It it desirable that local speakers and writers assist in the exercises ol the institutes by discussing subjects in which they are most in terestod, or in which they hav* had successful experience. It may not be practicable al ways to hold the institute on the day desired by the community, ai different placeR sometimes ash for the eame date. The final Re lection of the date must, there fore, be left to the college author ities, but the wishes of the com munity will be observed as far at possible. It is the policy of the college t< lengthen, when desirable, the ses ions of the institutes. Werealizi that the beit results cannot b< obtained from a one day meet ing. The scope and character o the work should be broadenei year after year. Among the subjects that th members of the institute staff ar prepared to discuss mav he men tioned : "Improvement of Soil," "Grass es and Legumes," "Horticulture, "Plant Diseases," "Botany," "Kn tomology," "Insects and Insecti cides," "Methods of Spraying,' "Darying," "Animal Husbandry, "Farm Manures," "Veterinary Science," "Fersilizers," "Chemis try of Soils," "Truck Farming, "Drinking Waters," "Koad Im provement" and "Industrial Kdu cation." THE COLLEGE INSTITUTE. After the county institutes ai institute lasting one week will b* held at Clemson college. Boar* and lodging will be furnished a cost. Distinguished lecturers fron abroad will be invited to assist it the college institute and every effort will be exerted to make t this meeting pleasant and profitable. j The auxilary experiment station clubs are earnestly invited to co-operate by sending dele gates.
