At 11 :35 it rolled up to the depot, when a great cheer e went up from the multitude, 1 which was responded to vigorous- I ly by the three hundred young 1 men aboard, while the Clemson c College band played Dixie. c In a few minutes the cadets had disembarked and they took e up the line of march to Winthrop, J where more than three hundred u girls in blue, with eyes brighten- I ed by expectancy, awaited the t coming of the boys in grey. The r cadets were under arms and presented a very imposing appear ance as they with quick step \ marched along White street to t the college. c Notwitstanding the hour at t which the train arrived here, 1 more than an hour after it was expected, the program that had c been arranged by ['resident John- C son and his capable faculty for a the reciption of the cadets was i without hitch and every detail r was carried out as had been origi- i nally planned. I "Taps." After the arrival of the ca lets on the NVinthrop grounds a re- ( ception was held, after which the corps engaged in a dress parade on the campus. This was wit- ' nessed with a great deal of inter est by a large erowil of spectators. The corps was under the command of Major Shank tin. The corps is divided into three battalions, commanded respectively by Majors Shanklin, Martin and J Rltigh The corps is composed of a line looking sot of yotfng men. They are well drilled, and well trained in military evolutions. After the dress parade the ca- , (lets and thoii" fair entertainers , with a number of visitors, assem bled in the great auditorium, , where a concert was given com- \ plimentary to the cadets. ^ ] The numbers on the pro^am were special selections ant i-.ere i artiscally executed. The playing of Holt's "Dalmon-,. uitanz," artanged for two pianos, >y Misses Pawnee Jones, Lalla Hack, Jennie Russell and Marian Villinms, was convincing proof >f the excellence of the musical sal training at Winthrop.',' "Beauty's Eyes," by Tosti, was i charming number as sung by ^ Urs. Wade K. Brown, with violin V iccompainment by Miss Davis, tfrs. Brown also sang "Three Children's Songs," by Nevin, with nuch sweetness. The Cecilia Chorus, comprising siglity voices; closed the program vith two college songs. They capivated all hearts, as they always lo. When the concert had been .oncluded, the faculties and stulents of the two colleges, with ibout two hundred invited guests, epaired to the spacious dining oom, where the eight hundred >ersons wero seated at the ban|uet prepared by Winthrop.
