In February, 1S02, I bought a

of stock or more than one small

had better try and get along with
the old barn rather than go in
debt still further for a new one.
So things moiod along very well
through the summer, and I made
a pretty fair crop; but as winter
came nearer the thought began toj

seeing that I was pretty blue un

been an uncommonly hard one
on stock.' and that it they were'
in my place they would go ahead
and try and get along without aj

and made another lair crop and
took the same butch el cattle

Then, alter carrying these cattlei

I them for about enough profit to

this point I was fully determined
to have a good barn built before
another winter came, regardless
of what might follow, for I was
satisfied that it would not make
my condition any worse to go in
debt for a barn than it would to
try to farm another year without
one. So I proceeded to buy fratn
ing and other lumber which required
to build a barn 3Gx00 feet
on post9 twenty feet high. I em
ployed good workmen, and before
I the tirst frost came I had as good
a barn as there wa? in this part
of the county. Then L wont to
work with renewed energies, feeling
that I was just getting into
the road to success, and I can
thank < Jod that so far it has proven
true in inv case.
Soon after my barn was linished
1 had the third crop which 1 had
made all stored snugly away.
Then I needed another bunch of
cattle. 1 soon managed to get the
same number and as near the
same quality as the lirsl as could |
be found. I wanted to see tbei

bran, shelled corn, oat s, etc. I his
gives me room for our ililferent
lots ol stock, including horses, all
of which can be fed from driveway
in a very few minutes.as the
feed mangers are just inside ol
the -i-IViot boxing along driveway
and all we have to do is to just
drop the feed ov*er the low wall
and it falls in the right place. In
hot weather stock can stand with
their heads over this low boxinu
to drive way, and with big (loort
open it gives a good, cool breeze
through the barn. This makes it
very pleasant lor the stock, and
in addition to sheltering the ani
m.ils it saves feed and manure
It also prevents loss when a good
crop of wheat is secured, to have
a nice dry barn in which it can
be stored.
In conclusion. I wish to advise
every farmer who has not a good
barn to build one at once, even
if he must live in a poor house
for a while and go in debt lor lib
barn. This, because with proper
management, the barn will soon
pay ior useii ana a gooa dwelling
house besides.
