ROAD IMPROVEMENT.
Wo are glad to see a sentiment
in favor of good roads growing so
rapidly in this county, and espo
cially in the section east of town.
Besides the work done by the
wagons hauling rooks on the road
east of town last Friday, it is
now proposed to devote another
day to that important work, and

row, there will probably be 35 or
40 wagons, and if Ihev do not
get enough rook there that day to
put the road in the conoition it
should be put, they should all
' with one accord" devote another
day to the work.
The chain gang was put upon
that piece of road Monday, and
if the people will haul the rocks
there the Supervisor will keep
the gang there till that road is
macadamized solidly from town
to the Me Dow house. This is a
piece of road of more than unu
sua! importance. 1'erhaps four
fifths of tin' fire wood used in
Lancaster, including what is used
at t lie Cot ton mill and in the
houses of tho operatives, is hauled
over this piece of road, and it
will he for years to come. lie
sides, it is the nutlet to the larg
est and most populous as well as
most prosperous portion of the
county, and is therefore travelled
by more people coming into town
to transact business than any
other piece of road in the Conn
tv. Then let every body take an
" interest in this work, town peoTil."

It is proposed that the ladies
shall have a hand in this work

It is said that "Uncle George"
Tillman has decided definitely to
enter the race for Governor this
year. This is a pity ; "Uncle
George" is too good an old gentleman
to have to he defeated by a
people who honor and adtnire
him as he is honored and admired
by the people of this State. And
yet defeated he will bo if ho runs.
Ho is no longer in touch with the
people, and they will not support
him simply for what he has been.
