Matters came to a crisis last
Saturday when a partner of the
exchange, learning that (iardner
was tinancialiy "shaky." went to
him and requested the return of
a check which he had deposited
with him some time before for the
purpose of making a deal in
sti cks. Mr. (iardner replied that
the check had heen made over to
W. A. l'orforlield A: Co., who
handled his business for him. The
suspicious citizen then enquired
at the hank and was somewhat
startled to learn that the check
had cashed by I'. A. (iardner,
who proceeded to pocket tlie
"dough."
A little quiet investigation Megan,
and Mi. (iardner, becoming

skipped over to Spartanburg yesterday
