TOMATO-FIG COMPANY.
Statements a Correspondent Inestigated
in Washington.

Lancaster, Aug. 15.?I have a
little more information about the
Tomato-Fig company, of Washington,
which will prove more or
less interesting to the people of
the Fifth congressional dislri t.
provided the editor of The News
and Courier does not see lit to
rule it out on the ground that
his paper does not publish advor
tisments in its news columns.
The Tomato-Fig company is a

And what is the tomato tig
compound? The public should
not be kept in ignoance. The
discovery was made in the dead
of winter, when tomatoes were
scarce and tigs were not to be had.
The tirst experimental brew,
therefore, was made from canned
goods, bought front one of the
many family grocers abounding
in Washington, and the tigs were
obtained from the same source.
They were dried tigs, but that did
not in any wise diminish their medicinal
virtue, and a few ounces
of laxative from tho drug store
added to tho mixture gave it untold
value. With ripe tomatoes
in the summer time and ligs from
the south, the remedy is produced
mucj^ more economically,
and the profits are correspondingly
greater.
The factory of the Tomato Fig
company is located at No. 1,015 F
street, Washington. In addition
to this wonderful remedy the
company also owns a "face steam
ingM apparatus, which is largely
patronized hy the unfortunate

of the company Dr. Strait
offered several of his fellow congressmen
stock of the par value

only in order that others might

mistake. That the doctor lias

ol his prestige among the statesmen
of Washington, and in the
further consideration of a few

member of the firm, who is
business manager and treasurer,
is a shrewd Yankee, who, by discovering
the virtues of the tomato-fig
compound. became a
benefactor to his race, and incidentally
to Dr. Strait and the voters

they all tell him that they are not

is located, has tried to collect the
rent from several of the individ
ual stockholders. Butts is out of
town, and so the matter stands.
Butts is trying to raise sufficient
money to resume operations in
the fall, and in the meantime,
landlord Walter is hoping that
his rent may be forthcoming. He
has been offered some of the
stock for rent due. but lie prefers
the money, if he can get it.
